Tonye:

Yes that DVR 105 superdrive will work with all apple software.  It is in fact the same make and model apple uses as their superdrive.  I know this because I have one.

While it's true that the PIONEER DVR 105 is used by Apple it must be installed internally in order to fully supported.

If iDVD 3.0.1 doesn't work with externals, then save the Video_TS folder to the desktop and burn with Toast.

Thank all of you for the great input, I got it off of eBay for what I think was a good price.  I am eager to use iDVD for the first time, and i hope the external drive does work with iDVD.  If not, I already have Toast software for backup...

Thanks again... thumbup.gif

I know for fact that DVD Studio Pro (any version but v2 is much better and Apple is selling it at half price) does work with that FW drive.  Also, you can always take it out of the firewire enclosure and install it internally in your bay, because it is really a ATA drive in a case using a firewire bridge.    whistling.gif

Maybe it's interesting to mention that Toast 6 is going to be released (they said it's selling already, but i didn't see any of that yet).
Toast 6 seems to cross blades with apple, as they say it will fully support dvd burning.
And i bet Toast 6 won't have any problems with your external dvd writer.

You can do it yourself.  It installs through the front bay door, after you release the plastic covers.  Apple designed a very easy sliding bracket held with only two small screws.  Go to Apple support and do a search for installing DVD drive.  They have a pdf file AND a Quicktime movie that shows you step by step how to do it.  All you need is a medium tip Phillps screw driver.  It took me less than 5 minutes to put in my DVR 105.

Mrious:  Toast 5 DIDN'T have any problems burning DVDs with his firewire drive.
