Utilizing utilities (TTP,Norton etc) from another computer through file sharing?
I have most my utility programs on one partition on a PM.
Lets say I turn on file sharing etc for that PM and file sharing etc for the PB.
Bring that partitions icon over to the PBs desktop.
Could one fire up the utilities on that partition from the PB?
I realize classic would need to fire up OR I could boot into OS9xx from the PB first thing before bringing that partitions icon over.
It has all the prefs,exts in the system that's on that partition.
I don't need to try this wild idea nor really want to because my machines are singing one fine tune at the moment. Curious is all.
Now that I'm thinking about it, what about an external burner hooked up to the PM?
The printer works great from a hundred feet away. Why couldn't the burner say hey with the PB?
OR should I forget these wild ideas and clean my dogs swimming pool instead.?.

I don't think you have wild ideas. Sounds to me like a network remoting situation. You can remotely operate another computer through file sharing access. Using disk utilities, you can open a utility program sitting on another computer or server, but the system your opening from can't be repaired or optimized because it's the active system. However other drives or volumes (partitions) should be able to be worked on. When you think about it, aren't you doing just that when you boot from a CD.

Agreed.
Why would booting from a cd,exterior drive,another partition be any different than another source as long as the source has the appropriate necessary factors too do so.
Can't see any reason why two devises hardwired 'connected' - ethernet, firewire, usb, etc wouldn't work. After all another computer is basically a device that needs instructions on 'how too' send and receive.
Difference between wireless and a sort of hardwire signal is just the method of sending and receiving the command.
Of course there are several variables involved for each situation.

In the fantasy world called life there's millions of examples.
Perhaps the next time my 'puter or 'puters needs one of the utilities help/diagnoses, I'll give the wireless a shot at the bat.
OR I'll let someone else have the honors and see if they learned any new four letter words.

You wouldn't be able to work on the OS.
OS 9.xx File Sharing can access the whole Drive if Shared.

Now on the one can only access bla bla in X.
I -seem- to be able to access any of my partitions on either drive from both my PMs.
Doesn't matter which machine I'm on, It -seems- I can get to the other two 'puters from Jag too Jag.
I've tried this in all directions but really haven't given it a full test.
Just opened/chose a icon (partition,whatever) over to the machine I'm on and grabbed what ever I needed/wanted to that machine.
How can I do this?
Because I'm handsome, diviner, brush my teeth three times a day and wake up with a smile after dreaming about Dreambird.
Although I think you're correct on not being able to 'work' on the OS Kelly.

I thought the question was can you run a Disk Utility over a Network.
Like start Norton and run it to fix a Partition on another computer.
But the question seems to be.
Connect to another machine and run the Disk Utility from that.
I think you might have luck with OS X Server.

Both my PMs have a partition that has the utilities.
Sure. If you fire up either machine and boot into that partition, you can use those utilities (who care which.Not the point) to check or repair the other partitions or drives on that machine.
All of that is the normal. So is booting from a bootable utility cd.
Lets say I'm on one of the PMs or the PB.
Fire up file sharing for one of the other or all three so they can say hey to each other (which I can do).
I'm feeling foggy and don't want too use the partition which has the utilities on that machine I'm on but instead -yank- the partition [which also has utilities] from one of the other machines over to the desktop of the machine I'm on and then fire up those utilities.
1) From the responses, it can be done.
With out running back to my first post, think that was the main question.
2) If (or when) firing up these utilities, .. for the exception of there home front of course .. who or what can they work on considering they would have access to all three machines?

Bill if I get a chance this long weekend, I'll experiment a little over my wireless network and see if I can get something happening between my PB and tower. I don't have Norton (never will), haven't coughed up the dough for Diskwarrior or tt. I'll try to run DiskUtility...as that's all I have at the moment.

Imagine how I felt many years ago when I reached into the sugar packets container at a restaurant and pulled out one that identified itself as being distributed by the Terminal Food Service !!!
