Is there a problem sharing files between OS9&OSX.2?
as some of you know I'm looking for a new Mac and would like to share my Cable Modem as well as printers between my Beige G3, OS9x and the new Mac, OS9.2.2 and OSX.2, when I get it.
Will it be a problem and what gear will I need?
TIA

Gary, I am presently doing OS X/OS 9.2.2 file sharing over an Airport. All is seamless, even simultaneously accessing the broadband cable modem. As long as you have the same or compatible applications on both machines, the files will open as expected.
The only "gotcha" is that printer sharing between two different OSs is not (yet) doable.
Regarding needed equipment, most any router/LAN/WiFi system will work, but as I am only familiar with an Airport network, others can better address the specifics.

sharing the internet and fileshring should be no problem.
But there is a work around to share your printer with the OS 9 machine. Kind of a hassle, but it does work. The USB printer will have to be hooked up to the OS X machine and you will have to have Classic running when you want the OS 9 Mac to print.
Go to Apple's knowledge base and do a search for this document #107060

Thanks for the responses.
I'm sure I'll have all kinds of questions once the computer arrives....so get ready.

Yes.
Perhaps it's only me, but I seem to be too stupid (or whatever) to share files via AppleTalk FileSharing between OS 9 and OS X. I can find the OS X Macs in the network browser under OS 9, but not the other way around. Neither can I find other OS X Macs under OS X.
Don't know if it's all my fault, but I am somewhat annoyed by MacOS X's networking.
