Does anyone know what a Type 11 Error is? My husband has finally gotten brave enough to use my Mac (he's a Wintel kind of guy). While checking his email using my ID on Navigator, it suddenly quit.
He restarted the Mac, as I had shown him just today. I decided that three times in twenty four hours was too many times for this to happen. I went into Navigator and alloted more memory. I rebuilt the DeskTop.
He mentioned that the the site where he has email was extremely slow. I don't know if this has anything to do with the problem.
I just wondered if this is a typical thing to have happen.
I am using both Internet Explorer v5.1 and Netscape Navigator and Communicator v.4.79. I needed to get back up on email so my Mentor, talked me through a download of Netscape. It seemed to be working just fine until yesterday. I cannot view TS Forum and add reply a
reply using Netscape. The words look like a jumbled mess and it really hurts my eyes to try to even view the screen. I decided to resurrect IE so that I can get to TS and be able to post topics and replies.
I really want to know what the Type 11 Error means.
My husband said that there was no explanation but that given.

Evening Harv,Thank you. My husband has used Netscape at school, in the past. He really prefers IE, which he has on his Windoze at school. He was curious about this version of Navigator, so he decided to give it a try.
He was just recounting about the older version of Navigator saying "You have performed an illegal operation, you are now being shut down." Of course, I quipped that it was the Netscape Police and they, of necessity would shut down an "illegal" operation. We both had a good chuckle about it. At least it was a fairly polite notice. Now, it just rudely freezes or shuts down with some number given, that ordinarily would mean nothing to the person.
BTW, Thank you for the "brainstorming" and assistance you have given concerning my printing difficulties. I printed out the information that you had given to Dick. I did a drag and drop on the printer and it worked. I am only guessing, but I think that 2MB of Memory is the real problem with the printer. I was trying to print out a 55 page Users Manual in a pdf format. It got to page 18 and quit.
I have been suffering from Chemotherapy related mental confusion, so if I have hard copy in front of me it really helps me to avoid the problem. I have printed over a ream of information in just the last week. I have them all nicely catalogued in binders for referencing now.

my husband said the same thing. It was a printing experiment that went wrong. I was trying to see if Adobe would work, again. I guess that is a good way to try to work around the problem.I haven't checked to see if there are any service or repair places that could do an upgrade for me to a 4MB. The nearest Apple Store is in Massachusetts, near Boston. That's about a 45-60 minute drive from Rhode Island.
That is a whole other project and not in my immediate future. The work around will do for now.
Dick will be talking me through an upgrade to Netscape 7.0.2, in the hopes that it will at least allow me to better view TS and post topics and replies. Perhaps then I will finally get to use AOL messenger.

Netscape 7x ??? Uh Oh. If your System is working now. Stick to what you've got. Remember. You have a 6 yo. Mac. Always check "System Reguirments" before installing Software.Don't forget the "Readme File" also.

An 11 error is a general code for system error. This is so broad it could have been just about anything. However, you are becoming much better at the Mac. I use to get error 11 and a crash when I used Netscape back when I had a Mac clone. It happened all the time, but then I did the same as you (allot more memory to the program) and I got a lot less of those error.

Bernie,It was suggested to me that I download Netscape 7.02. I just clicked on that link to the page, the one you gave in your reply, and it took me to the screen for Netscape 7.1,
I think you may be right about this. When I went to another Netscape link, it said that it appeared that I already had 4.79 and that it was the correct version for my OS. It also said that there were no other Upgrades to the version that I already had. It is a little tricky, getting to the right pages and getting the correct System requirements.
What would I do without you Bernie - and of course, all my TS family to look out for my best interests?

Being so new, whenever I got a freeze or crashed, I assumed that I did something wrong. It scared me half to death. Now, I don't get too upset about it.
My poor husband just restarted and then ended his session, preferring to let me figure out what the Mac is doing or Netscape is doing.
Allotting more Memory for that application is a good fix; but only if I quit all other applications.
This is what I have:

In this day and age, with larger and faster being the rule, it can be a little challenging to do some things, given my situation. It isn't impossible though.
My husband likes to go to a lot of different sites and does a lot of research for his classes. His Windoze PC at school is, I think but I don't know for sure, a Windows '98. He has crashes, freezes and other really bad things happen.
His email was down for about three months, because a hacker got into the school system and brought down the school website and other things.
The school had to wait for some student volunteers to come in to work on problems, because they didn't have the money to hire anyone.
I am just getting used to the Mac. Adding Internet has really been challenging. Internet Explorer and Outlook Express gave me a lot of trouble. In addition, Cox High Speed Internet Tech Support for Macs, isn't what they
say it is. In fact, I really don't think that I was able to get that much "support", even though Cox pushes IE and OE and offers no support for Netscape. They just supply the open cable and if that is working, they tell you to call Microsoft or Apple. I don't know enough or have enough experience with Internet, to know if this is "normal" for most ISP's.
The point is, I probably have to do a lot of juggling to get things to work with this Mac. It is always an "Adventure",
but it can be very rewarding and satisfying when things function smoothly.

I was up at 4:30AM this morning. I was having a nightmare, woke up and couldn't get back to sleep.
Anyway, I barely made it through the Mass at St Patrick Church this morning I was so tired. I had breakfast at around noon and then I fell asleep until 4PM.
Rhode Island has had a lot of tropical type weather this Summer, really high humidity. Last night it actually got down to 60 degrees, for a change. Nice to be able to sleep without the overhead fans and AC on for a change.
So, what were you doing up so late?
I can remember working for the local newspaper nights and I'd just be getting out of work at that time. My body clock was so confused, that I would go home and start making Lasagna and have Supper instead of Breakfast.
Anyway, I am using the IE 5.1 for visits to TS. With Netscape 4.79, my screen looks really messy, so I don't use it for surfing, I just use it for email. I am still learning. I suppose that will never end. I am having some fun again with the Mac now.

Please peeps... go here for your most up to date explanations with ease: Netscape ArchiveHe keeps it all neat and comprehensive! Only NS7.1 is OS X specific... NS7.02 may be run on a PPC with OS8.6 - OS9.2.2!
Definately give it a try Myrna... if for whatever reasons you don't like it we can tell you how to trash it again too...
No NS6.x... it was a "dog!" If you don't like NS7.02 there's still something like Opera you can try that works well on this board.

No, I was up early too. My brain gets to figuring out what has to be done, and I can't go back to sleep. I did rest for a short time after urging you to do the same. Then it was off to church and a baseball game. Didn't get home until 5PM! Hope your Netscape problem got fixed.

I know what you mean about getting up early. It seemed when my System wasn't behaving after the IE and OE fiasco of multiple downloads (courtesy of Cox Tech Support), I wasn't able to sleep well, either.
There has been nothing fixed in stone yet about my Netscape.
I was on IE this morning when I went into a hang. I only use it because it is here and I can see the screen print better and post topics and replies.
I read with interest the articles on the link provided by Dreambird. sillydog had a really good section devoted to the Microsoft-Gates empire and IE vs Netscape development. The lack of security using Microsoft is a very frightening thing. I don't think that the general public really knows or understands all the dangers
I think I can understand why some people are unwilling to use anything Microsoft when given a choice.

Hello All,I have downloaded and installed Netscape 7.0.2. The installation went pretty well. The best part is that I can now see the TS screen without any problem. Although the screen seems a bit slower to key onto than the version 4.79.
I will let you all know how I like this version.

Hello All,I am using my Netscape 7.0.2 to view and post to TS.
All is working, except for my Mail Address Book. The bottom
of the New Card is cut off, making it impossible to Add new
Addresses.
Anyone else ever have this problem?
