Title: I have a new email address and I want to.....
Post by: Gary S on August 29, 2003, 12:21:36 PM
I set up a new email address to get rid of some spam and I want to mail it to people in my address book without everyone seeing everbody elses email address.

How do I do this in Netscape 7.02? Do I Cc or Bcc. Or some other way?

Harv,

What do you mean?

You can see I don't send any chain letters! smile.gif

I don't use Bcc at all. What do I do. huh.gif

Nevermind Harv, I forgot....Blind carbon copy.  doh.gif

Ok, I sent it to myself. Now do I forward it using Bcc or what?

Hi Gary,

I think Harv ment for you to address the email to yourself and add everyone else to that same email as Bcc's then send it.

Sorry Gary, What I meant is to compose the email as you desire it to be. Then address it to yourself with a BCC to everyone else. You will be the only one who sees all the addressees. The others (BCC recipients) will only see their name and you as the sender.

As far as selecting the BCC in Netscape, as I recall, right next to the place where you select the send to, there is a little drop down menu to select whether they are to be a: normal addresee, a CC (carbon copy) addressee, or a BCC (blind carbon copy) addressee.

Gary, you add the other addresses to the bcc: field and put your address in the to: field.  Then send the message.

If you use the cc: field (carbon copy) all the addresses will show up in the message headers.  If you use bcc: (blind carbon copy) recipients see only their own address.

The reason it was suggested that you send a message to yourself is because someone's address has to be in the to: field in order to send a message.  It could just as well be one of the other recipient's addresses.

To go on a little deeper on this topic.
Something i always wondered, isn't there a way to send the same email to your entire email address book?
Sometimes you see like <everyone@company.com>... but than you get everyone connected to that mailserver.
But is it somehow possible to mail everyone in your address book with just one line?

Hope this is somewhat clear blush-anim-cl.gif

Thanks everyone.

Just a short note. Safari does not have BCC, just TO and CC. Glad I have Entourage also, as it has all three.

Yep, it's called a "List" in NS.  Open your address book, click on the "New List" button, the next window brings up a place to name the list, i.e., "everyone", then you can drag the addresses from the address book into the "list" window.

However!  it shows all the receipents if you just send it "To", but if you send it "Bcc", using the "list" name, it does not show the receipents.

Do an experiment, I find if I open the address book and in the left pane click on the arrow, under the address book containing the list, then click on the list, then click Compose, it "shows" all the addys in the email.  But if in the right pane, I click on the card "listname" and then click Compose, it just shows "listname" and NOT the indivivual addys.

Clear as mud? wacko.gif

Have you changed your address in the board profile?

We haven't had to do a mass email since we've been using this software, but if we need to, the only way we can reach you is IF YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS IS CURRENT.

I am but a lowly peasant pilgrim looking for a place to hang out. wink.gif

Hey, by the way, I took off Netscape 7.02 and reinstalled 7.01 and it works a lot better.

 Yaay..... biggrin.gif

I'm not on NS, but this got me thinking smile.gif
So, i opened Address Book.app and created a new "Group", named it "TS" (yup yup) and added my business cards from everyone TS.
Opened Mail.app, and then started typing "TS" and yup.... after a second alll the emails from the "TS" Group came in there smile.gif
You can't do it with the standard "All" Group, so you do have to create altarnative groups, still.... good to know.

Thxxxxx for the hint Jenny smile.gif
