Well, that's a somewhat grandiose way to reintroduce myself, but it seemed somehow appropriate... You see, I finally got down to the Shaumburg Apple Store and purchased a G4 15" Powerbook! I am so infatuated with this thing, I don't recall feeling so excited about a computer since the very first Tandy 102 laptop I bought in 1984, on which I wrote an entire novel (unpublished, but what the heck... it was a personal best!) I haven't even taken it out of the styrofoam, but I keep opening the box and looking at it!
(Well, look, guys, don't tell anyone about this, okay? They'll think I'm a goofball, and I can't afford to besmirch my impeccable image. Right!)
Good to get back! Miss y'all. Hope everyone is doing great!

I'm just glad you here

What a present to the gang, as we get ready for Our Birthday . . . a visit by Dr. Lorraine.
Don't apologize for looking at the new PB. Haven't you ever looked in your garage just to be sure a brand new car is "safe" for the night?
Next task: figure out the price schedule for colleagues being allowed to toy with it, at the University.
-
Welcome Home hon. And with such good news!!!
-
Despite the fact some members keep telling me to go see you, I missed you Lorraine.
-
She was lost, and is found. And they began to be merry.
And having a new PB in hand can't hurt.
All is again right with the world.
Home!

Shopping at Woodfield Mall, eh? Is this compusive?

Glad you stopped in here. Don't be stranger. (sic)

Hi Lorraine.

That's pretty cool.
-
Hi Lorraine! Good to hear from you. Enjoy your new Mac.
-
Oh, gosh, thank you all, my sisters & brothers! That's how you know you're family, when you can disappear without a word and be welcomed back so heartily!
The first string I bookmarked was Gary S's string on "iDVD... anyone have any experience with it?" because I have a feeling I'm going to need that! I'm planning to start editing all my VHS cassettes and make DVD's.
One thing which I failed to get while I was there is Office for Mac. I looked on eBay and found THIS but I'm not sure it is the right one. Any advice, hmmmmm?
By the way, Dick, the price for YOU to use it any old time you want is FREE! And that's not just because you are 2000 miles away... Really!
-
Lorraine, In short...
I favor the Office v. X over the v 2001, esp. with that new zoomie computer of yours. But it is only for OS X.
In Office X, Word, Power Point, and Excel are usually highly rated. Entourage ratings are a bit more mixed.
I have found the above ratings to be fair.

Yup, Harv's right . . . (as usual)!
With an "educational" employer, you should be able to get a really good deal on Office for X.
Despite that its 10 (to the 6th) number of features drive me k-r-a-z-y, when all I want to do is make a format change, go get the copy for X, not <X.

Welcome back Lorraine. Your absence has not been inconspicuous I assure you. I have wondered about your whereabouts often.
WELCOME HOME!!!

Everytime I read that .. flashbacks of a Christmas tree and goodies.

Lorraine,
If you do get into iDVD you may want to go here and check out the posts at the iDVD forum.

I haven't even taken it out of the styrofoam...
Better keep your eye on that packing, you never know ...
Welcome back kiddo. Please grace us with your presence on a more frequent basis.

Welcome back Lorraine!
And with a shiny new toy, too...they ARE nice, aren't they? I've had my 800 MHz Ti for over a year now, but it is still a wonderful thing. Even if the short people in the family have taken to using it for Heroes of Might and Magic IV because it flat out refused to install on son #1's G3 (Mom hasn't had time to fix that yet
)
Agree 110% on the Office X purchase - and there is a new version of Office X, which appeared in the last month or so. I still haven't been able to figure out what's significantly different or improved (other than the addition of MS Exchange stuff to Entourage - about time!), although the student and teacher edition will apparently allow up to 3 installations in the same household, which is a definite improvement over the last version...
Also, the "Professional" edition of Office X now comes with Virtual PC 6.1 - but of course, teachers and students aren't supposed to need that, so it doesn't come with an ed discount.
-
Yaaah, Krissy, don't make me paranoid!!
Kelly, both: My husband is principal of a therapeutic day school and he is eligible for the discount... But we are also paying tuition... and paying... and paying... and (etc.)
The deal you linked to is just what I need, although the $99. offer is gone, but the $124.99 with free shipping is still a better deal than at the store.
Bill, it's a Powerbook G4 15". Well, I've taken it out of the styrofoam now (but not throwing it away!) and have placed it in my Incase... okay, still in the plastic wrap, though! But I'm making progress!
Thank you everyone & all for your terrific greetings, good wishes, and great advice!!
-
Kind of figured that from your first post Lorraine.
I was just wondering about the MHz is all. No matter anyways.
Word of advice.!.
Read some time back on a board that the poster/author of a new (one week) PB let his/her kid play with the PB while eating a chocolate sunday. The kid apparently loved too touch the screen a lot. Need I go further.?.

Yes. Filicide. Justifiable.
