Title: Well, IT'S Here ! ! ! 1-2-3 Happy Birthdays
Post by: RHPConsult on September 16, 2003, 11:41:36 PM
On June 15 in the storied year of Two and Oh, Oh, Oh, A hardy group of Mac-sters found that they’d sustained a blow, For, y’see, these net-acquaintances, at a jolly help site, true Encountered it - - transformed - - o’ernight, as though by bolts–from–blue!
“It cannot be”, some cried aloud, across the ‘net so wide, “We are deprived of this fine site, by corporate Jekylls, become Hydes!” Yet, in hours, a few hardies took a valiant plan, thereby to cook Thus start anew, a heady brew, of Mac Help where all might look . . . and for free, too!
Spread ‘cross the world, from old Berlin, to the blessed Hawaiian shores, They organized, to build and shape, a Mac site that would score. For near ninety days they labored, our Gang of 17 To build a site, some rules and regs, whose function could be keen.
On 17 September, TeeEss opened, wide . . . expec-tant-ly, Invitations to the faithful said . . . “Come, join-in, with glee!” And since that day many threads have flown, across four con-tin-ents ‘Bout ram, and roms, and megahertz, plus irascible Bill’s tuppence
We hope that you’ve enjoyed the ride, despite a bump or two, As all of us proclaim our joy in having mixed this brew, Wherein Mac puzzles – and things OT – are revealed through lively banter When you - - each day we trust - - check-in beneath our u-nique banners
And so, today, look back with us, as we check the numbers here, >10,500 threads, >75,000 “re-plies”. . .no pop-ups, no flames, and few, if any, sneers This “house” was built with an open door for members/posters/lurkers . . . you! Who’ve come-on-in to shape TeeEss - - happy place for answers and fun . ..”Whoo Hoo!”

Thanks Poet Lariat for that historic tome.
It took nearly 600 emails and inumerable postings to temporary boards (thanks giantmike!) before we dared to go public.
I've never met in person any of the other founders, yet I feel they are family, as do many of the TS members.
Three years is an eon in computing time yet here we be...

Happy birthday dear TS - it's a third birthday I sees Lots of help and friendly advice and never any fees!
(All right, it doesn't hold a candle to the artistry of Dick But I was never too good at the rhyming trick...)
And I made the effort
Many congratulations and thanks to the great people who got this site up and running, the people who keep it going and to the many fellow posters who make this site what it is.
PS: Perhaps we should ask posters on the other birthday threads to repost here, so we can have just one birthday thread. Just a thought - no compulsion. (TS has always been so good at NOT issuing orders )

It's been a great three years! Wishing us thrice thirty.
I've been tickled to meet (face to face) Founders RHPConsult (member and sharer of the U Club-whatta joint) MamaMoose(from my mouth to God's ear!) Sandbox (innies or outies?) Dreambird (want to see a sunrise on the Atlantic?) Members Tacit(yep, as he writes, he is!) Himrich (flying hither and yon) Burt (such a quiet gentleman) Totoise (not just anyone could pull off that tie!) Gregg (so that's what TS means!)
Now, for a bit of trivia.
Who made the first post? Who ran a triple boot drive with Win 98, Win 2000 and Win XP?....sucessfully! Where does IE store cookies? What was the longest thread? Who is Sandra? Who went to Indianoplis? Which anniversary did we celebrate with Bob and Bunny? Who coined "there are no stupid questions"? What animals have TS'ers reported seeing in the backyard?

Congratulations and Best Wishes to the Executive Committee for a job well done!

Happy Birthday TS!
3 years already! It's been great. Here's to the founders and those who take the time to stop by.
What was the longest thread?
I think it was the joke thread I started that kind of got out of hand...I forget how many pages it went but it sure had some great jokes in it!

Happy Birthday to everyone at TS! Best darn forum on the net. Where else would you find a bunch of people who: donate equipment on a regular basis - to each other and to various deserving entities, send housewarming & wedding gifts to people they've never met face-to-face, lend strange things like Canadian flags ( ), lend sympathy & cheer when misfortune strikes...and oh yes, share technical advice to solve our Mac-related head-scratchers? And all with a genuine air of goodwill and tolerance, a healthy dollop of humor, and little of the crankiness that so often rears it head elsewhere on the net. It truly is a home on this vast sea we call the internet, due in no small part to the spirit and dedication of our founders. Thanks everyone!

Well, at least at TeeEss we avoid both anomie and/or ennui

Happy Birthday to the TS community,
Am I ever glad I stumbled upon this site, although I may not have posted very much lately I visit daily and am always learning something. The helpful answers and invaluable advice have meant that a series B imac continues to purr along. I know that eventually I will have to buy another mac that will come only with osX, and my learning curve will start over again, and I know where to find the sages and teachers - here!

And almost -- I hope --- unforgiveably, tied up as I was yesterday with internal knots, a German software developer from Brazil and a wildcat in a faraway town, I didn't even drop in to wish us all a Wonderful Anniversaire.
Shame on me, but I'm as proud as ever of TS. Actually, Marcel, though I'm mainly a lurker these days, I'd been thinking it was more than three years myself, though I knew perfectly well that it wasn't.
Right now, I'm busy writing up some impressions of this year's Apple Expo for my 'blog (which takes up quite a lot of time nowadays), and I'll let you know when they're done. Meantime, Rock On!

P.S. As for the who coined the "there are no stupid questions" response at this place, I'm foxed myself. My memory tells me it was two people, each with names beginning with a letter near neither the beginning nor the end of the alphabet, who did so simultaneously. Serendipitously.

Suppose it's time for request like more than one forum, elevator music built into or interrogated into the boards software, photo gallery of all the female members in swimsuits .... etc etc.
Btw. Who is Captain?
OH! RHP. I'm going to ignore that statement above if it was aimed at me for now.

RHP, Bohemian as he may have been, hogs were most likely on the culinary menu.
My point wasn’t an indictment, he just popped up after many years of lying dormant in the dust with the rest of his compatriots. I suppose reading Richard Florida Book and following that train of thought to "Give Me a Home were the Like Minded Roam" could have disrupted the Dust Bunnies.
Sorry, a bit Too Much at 4 am.......

Nick, I did a search for "stupid questions" and while that phrase came up frequently early on "there's no such thing as a stupid question" actually came up first in a post by... guess who...?
QUOTE
BTW, didn't anybody ever tell you there's no such thing as a stupid question? Not if you want to learn anything in this world ... whatever your experience!
Bill, Captain was an early member of our group who was very mysterious and didn't come forth with much information about himself. A couple weeks before we opened he decided to bow out for personal reasons.

Kris, you surprise me. Really. Without doing a search, I'd "remembered" the first to use that phrase here being the other two "Ks": KBear and Kelly. Don't the old synapses wear out fast?
Title: Well, IT'S Here ! ! ! 1-2-3 Happy Birthdays
Post by: krissel on September 19, 2003, 10:42:46 PM
Yeah, but I think it's more a matter of the frequency of use that connects our brain to a particular source.
Kelly and kbear used the expression a lot and it has become associated with them.
Think of it like the Apple/Microsoft beginnings. Apple had the ideas first but MS used them en masse so they are credited with the "innovations".
Uh oh, now the big "K"s are going to think I'm comparing them to MS.
No, guys, not what I meant.

Nice Poem Richard.
No krissel. I only "innovated" that phrase.
Certainly didn't start it.
It's as true as it ever was though.

I could have sworn I'd replied to this string already... But, belatedly, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TS!! You all are amazing, especially your GENEROSITY -- the time you all take to answer all of these concerns, and to look up answers when you don't have them at your fingertips. WHAT A GROUP! I suggest changing the name to TECHANGELS, because that is more descriptive.
By the by, kelly was the first -- and repeated it many times -- to tell ME there are no stupid questions! (But I keep trying to prove him wrong!!)

Re: "there are no stupid questions" ...
A friend of mine once told me about a class he was taking where, right before a break, someone asked a question and the teacher replied that it was a stupid question.
The class took their break.
After the break, no one came back.

Lorraine, indeed they may have told you that many times, cause you win the prize for the first person to use the phrase "stupid question".
