Hey all, great to finally see a Mac only forum for a change.
I am runing an 01 model Power Mac G4 with OS9.xxxxxxx and Max Ram Now, I bought Jaguar and tried to load it with all my old software(bad Idea) Problems ever since. I zeroed out my comp and reloaded 9.xx.xx.xxx.x.x I would love to run the new OS 10 but it really bogs down and seems like it can't handle any of the programs. I still have All the Adobe products that run on OS9 like P.S.6.0 and the rest of that years suite. I want to install the OS10 without all the Bog, is that possible? I do have a couple of vices I also play a couple games and only have one game installed on my mac. I want to install War Craft III but, I get half way through the levels and it locks me up, the game runs but I can't get the Chars to move(wierd)
Even now I am having issues with PhotoShop 6. No matter how much memory I allocate to it, it sometimes just Type 2's on me and shuts down. Any sugjestions, sorry for the long post, just a little anxiouse.

Hi and welcome to TS! I'm sure others will be along shortly--in fact one of our founders, Al, is a "neighbor" of yours. Maybe he'll just stop on over and take a look.
After you installed OSX, did you run the disk utility program from your hard drive and "repair permissions"? (Remember, you need to run this from the hard drive.) You should do this after any installation, software update, etc.
Other maintenance routines would be to boot from your Jaguar CD and open disk utility and run "repair disk". (This one you have to run from the CD.)
As I said, others will be along shortly and will give you a hand!

Welcome to this great forum!
I am a bit worried about installing OS X on my G4, as it runs well and does its job perfectly with all my present software on 9.2.2.
I think that what I will do is get another G4 next year with X and go from there.

Smokin 78, So glad you found us and indeed welcome to TS. I am not a gamer and know not of the innards of Adobe, but of this I am certain. Around here, there is no such thing as a dumb question (so have at it).
And only rarely has a problem not been solved. So, as long as you hang in there, someone from TS will be there for you.
Finally, there are no prerequisites for posting a reply to any thread, so when you have something to add, just jump in.
BTW, that's a nice lookin Vette.

Hello Smokin78. Welcome to the Forum.
'01 G4.
One of these?
http://new.lowendmac.com/ppc/g4-133.shtml
Or these?
http://new.lowendmac.com/ppc/quicksilver.html
http://new.lowendmac.com/ppc/index.shtml
Any of these should run OS X fairly well. Maybe try it on a seperate Hard Drive?
I've heard that Warcraft III really requires a lot to run well.
I think GiantMike here plays it.
Do you have all the latest versions and patches?

Good luck.

Welcome aboard, S'78. . .As an ol' motorhead, I'll be anxious for you to post a picture of your "ride" (although I expect that will have to wait until after you get the problem with your computer straightened out)!
What's the speed of your 'puter? Did you try installing Jag first? I have an '01 733, and Jag runs fast and smooth. I've got it partitioned with Jag on one, and my OS9.2 on another, although I noticed that a "classic" OS9 was installed on the Jag side, but I never use it. I don't think you really have to worry about "zeroing" the HD, should you decide to reload one more time. . .Just reformat it with the disk utility from the installation disk, and if you desire to do it, partition it, also, and then install Jaguar first. I've also got all the Adobe software, and it runs fine, and my memory isn't even maxed out. I can't figure out what you might have done wrong, but. . .Hopefully, someone else might be able to help you nail it!
I just thought of something else, and that is. . .Have you got "classic" running all the time, because that MAY affect the performance.

Aloha Chris! Glad you made it here to the best Mac help forum on the internet! Welcome aboard brah!
Everyone, I invited Chris here from a hot rod forum we frequent. Actually, I am the newby on that forum. We both love cars and I found out that Chris is a Mac user too!
Nice Mac you got there.
What RobW said is a good start, you should repair permissions after any sort of software install. In OS X, go to you disk utility program (your OS X hard drive>applications>utilities>disk utility), highlight the partition or drive that OS X resides on and verify then repair permissions.
Regarding your apps. It seems you will go through what I and many others have had to do in the course of upgrading to OS X, that is to also upgrade your other software too. A small fortune is involved here
At this time you are using your OS 9 programs in Classic. Os X's way of being compatible to the earlier OS 9 native software. This can be a bit slower than being booted into OS 9 directly.
Regarding WarCraft III, try looking here for an update to WarCraft III. VersionTracker
There is a version update, version 1.0.5 for this game.
Beacher, check out Smokin's profile...

Another mac soul to TS, grrrreat
Welome on the board Smokin78... i'll leave these questions to answer by others though, hehehe
-
Oh yeah. . . THAT will definitely work!! Nice ride, '78.
-
Welcome to the site - - - Now why didn't I think of that 'steel helmet' a few years ago when I joined TS and before all of my mac attacks - - - you are in a good company now. I just wish someone could promote me to a G4.
-
You say you have "max RAM" in your computer. How much RAM do you have? OS X will run in as little as 128MB, but it's bog-slow. If you plan to run only OS X programs, you should have at least 256MB; if you want to run X and 9 programs, you should have at least 512MB. More is better.
The most common cause of Type 2 errors in Photoshop is corrupt fonts. Disable all your fonts. Does that help?
-
Thanx for all the help folks. And thanx again for the compliments on my ride I stil haven't installed X yet but, I'll get ovet that fear real soon. I ran some ofe the disk fixers you guys mentioned. I haven't had a single problem since. Even Diablo II is running faster for me. And in Photoshop I can open a whole horde of photo and work on them without a single glitch.
Thanx again, I can can hear a bunch of little hotrodders zipping down the strets in their little rice mobils, Time to break out the 'Link' and meet Al at the race track. in the meantime tell me what you all think of some of my work

Welcome to TS Smokin'78...
That is one FINE 'Vette you have there!
Not a bad looking "Family Car" either or "Grocery Getter" as we called 'em...
The inspiration for this graphic that I did in Bryce 4 was absolutely and completely due to a Black on Tan 1989 Trans Am I had once... remembering the mountain roads in B.C. and the windy little roads around Portland, Oregon...
http://www.pbase.com/image/4441514
Yeah, I know... no 'Vette... but it weren't no ordinary '89 TA either... all the bells and whistles of the top model 1989 GTA Trans Am... 5.7 Tuned Port Engine, WS6 handling, upgraded stereo... etc.
Thanks for bringing back some wonderful even if dangerous memories...
Sorry I don't know a thing about OS X... Still running and enjoying OS9.1

beacher - It's been one long, cold winter here. Way more than average below zero nights. March is finally here, scooter season can't be far off. New Vance & Hines pipes this year, now she sounds like a Harley!

This is the new addition to our family, http://www.pbase.com/image/13801937 , my brother's Butler Cobra. One of my kids is in the passenger seat, and there is no room for my husband(or the dog).
I haven't had my test drive yet, as I am a bit afraid of driving it. I will give it a whirl after the snow goes away.
I had to show it to you people who know about nice cars.

Hi Jim, More snow that Cape Cod has had in 20+ years. Here is the day of delivery. http://members3.clubphoto.com/jane243350/1...298/guest.phtml My grandson (2 1/2 yrs) loves to sit in the drivers seat, I must get a good photo.

Welcome to TS Smokin78.

Smokin78, oh dang, I thought you were already using OS X (Jaguar). Glad things are running better so far.
Roger, a ricer or ricer mobile is a slang for those import cars that all the youngins' are trying to fix up now a days. Some are quite fast, but for the most part the kids just like to act.
Fast ricer (436k)
See all the cool graphics, it makes their cars so much faster.
Oh my jcarter, that's a beautiful Cobra. I would wait too until the snow clears to test drive it.
