a new G5 dual?!?
Stopped by a ram distributer.
They were testing the latest generation one gig ram sticks in a new G5 dually.
From what I could gather the machine has been on for days loaded to the max with ram performing some heavy intensive test.
Quote: "Apple has put together the finest with this 2 gig dual"!
Me: How so?
"So far it is rock solid. Plus as an added bonus it is close too noise free"
Me: What do you mean by 'rock solid'?
That set him off on all sorts of technical talk I didn't have the slightest idea what he was talking about.
<< one of those shake your head up and down like you knew what in blazes he was talking about tricks >>
One part did catch my ear. The dual has room for future advancements for improvements.
In other wards, I believe he was referring to no more 'whole new designs' from square one. If he is right, it looks like the G5 boxes are going to be around for a few generations.
~Back on the ram~
I was going to ask "WHY" would anyone want that much ram but decided against it considering how he went off in his tech talk the last time around. <gr>
So I'm asking here instead.
That way I can 'hide' behind my monitor.

Kinda curious myself...
I wonder if this is the same machine on the TV Apple ad where the guy gets blown out of his house through walls etc. by the G5?
The ad is here too: http://www.apple.com/hardware/ads/g5/
I can't play it probably because I have Quicktime 5...

I believe there's a 4gig limit with most apps and the OS...the other 4gig won't be used...you'd be wasting your money, but you'd have bragging rights.

They were testing the new generation sticks Sir karl.
I have a gig plus of those funny looking horses.
Running everything I have installed on 10.2.8 and ... forgot what "out of memory bud" looks like.
Even in 9 zilch.
I can maybe, just maybe see three big ones but eight monsters?
btw ... don't let that Sir get to your head!

For one thing. It would be handy with Video Projects.

Having 5 Gigs of Video in RAM would be nice.
I imagine it would also help with very large Databases.

Bill: "btw ... don't let that Sir get to your head!"
I'm still waiting for the Queen to invite me to tea...

I could see where applications that each crunch a lot of data could use it like making Movies and Space stuff but I don't know.
