Title: How to default open with SimpleEdit
Post by: jb on October 20, 2003, 03:57:54 PM
Os 9.0.4/9.1. SimpleText limits opening text or graphics to 32K. SimpleEdit does not have such a limit. How can one change default opening with SimpleEdit instead of with SimpleText?

Right now sometime I get a message that says SimpleText cannot open a given document because the document is too large. What I have to do is to drag and drop the document on an alias of SimpleEdit. I would like documents, no matter what size, to open with SimpleEdit so that I don't have to drag and drop.

jb,

You might try getting rid of all the copies of SimpleText on your computer. I say copies because it's very likely that you have more than one.

Do a search using Sherlock by typing SimpleText. Move what you find to the Trash.

Now... if you do that, I believe you will be able to assign SimpleEdit as the default viewer.

I believe the control panel "file exchange" let's you choose what programs to open with certain (pc) files (extensions).
So, if you make it a habit of puting the .txt after textedit files, than set the control panel to read all .txt files with TextEdit, i think it should launch automatic.
I also think you can "choose & select" files, than say what program to open for that one (like, shoose a simpeltext, than say to open with TextEdit).

It's been a while that i checked thouse things on Os9 but i can check at work tomorrow.
Hope some of this is true though, hehehe wink.gif

Or you could download this FileTyper program and change all of your SimpleText Docs to SimpleEdit Docs.

FileTyper

I like FileTyper. smile.gif
