Title: ebay images = blank squares in all 3 browsers OS X
Post by: albequerque on October 23, 2003, 11:54:38 PM
Since ebay moved item images to i24.ebayimg.com, the images of items for sale (located on i24.ebayimg.com) display as a blank square on my TiBook running OS X 10.2.8, regardless of whether I'm using IE 5.2.3, Netscape 7.1, or Safari 1.0. Images from ebaystatic.com (thumbnails, buttons, etcetera) display fine, as do images from other websites. When I attempt to load an item image in a new window, the window is blank with the title e.g. "66_1.JPG 1x1 pixels" if the image is called "66_1.JPG." The images seem to display fine on a few Windows machines I've tried. I'm running NetBarrier 10.0.4 but have no firewall restrictions and have the banner privacy screen disabled. I connect through a DSL modem. Anyone else encounter this problem, or have suggestions? Thanks.

Hi, albequerque and  welcome.gif to Techsurvivors!

Could you post a URL to the auction you are talking about? I just checked ebay and can't find any problems with any images.

I couldn't find any images using the i24.ebayimg.com to compare with.

Hi Bruce,

Thanks for your reply. I went through the banner-ad filters in my firewall software with a fine-toothed comb, and found one denying images from any URL containing "yimg.com." Disabling the filter didn't solve the problem (!) but re-installing the firewall software after deleting the filter did solve the problem. Guess I had too much protection for my own good...

Thanks again, Albequerque
