Back to my printer problems.....
G4 Cube/500 384M ram, 10.2.8, trying to set up a LaserWriter Pro 630, using a Asanté Ethernet AAUI-10BaseT Transceiver to connect to the built in ethernet.
The printer is not seen.
Going to System Preferences>Network>Built in Ethernet>Appletalk tab, Make Appletalk Active. Go to Airport>Appletalk tab>Make Appletalk Inactive, turn off the Airport card, and tell Print Center to add a printer, an error message comes up saying that Appletalk is off and an Appletalk printer can not be found.
If Airport is left on, no printers show up, but I get nothing, a bit of the spinning wheel, but that's it.
There's something about Adding a "virtual" PostScript printer, but if I do that and then boot in 9, there's a "localhost" printer on the desktop, but again in the Chooser, there's no printer for Laserwriter 8.

This printer has worked well previously, connected to the printer port on the 6400, with Appletalk turned on.
Have also tried a Micro AsantéPrint by connecting the "old" printer port to the Micro and the Micro to the built in Ethernet port. It's not seen.

That Printer should be supported Jennie.

Is the Printer connected directly to the Cube?

Printer connected to an Asante FriendlyNet adapter then to the ethernet port on the Cube.
I'm leaning toward the ethernet port not working. The adaptors L1 light does not light. I've tried connecting to the router using ethernet, but get nothing.
Sure hope I'm wrong about a bad ethernet port and that it is some setting that makes the ethernet "shut off" when the Airport card is working.
Any suggestions on what to check or what will need replacing if the ethernet went south?

I doubt it's the Port. Probably the Adapter.

Yes, the above means, I T W O R K S !!!!!
The LW Pro 630 is now seen by the Cube running 10.2.8. I've been trying to connect the printer to the builtin ethernet port with a regular ethernet cable.
It required a crossover cable. Why didn't Apple put that in the blasted FAQ's?
Three weeks, and $5.00 and I am able to use the printer. YEAH!
I also had the "unable to Turn Appletalk on" as did Raven except the Airport and the builtin ethernet were both turned on. Turned it off on the Airport, and the printer was right in the list. YIPEE!!!!
