After almost six years with my workhorse beige G3 and many upgrades, I have made the jump to more more modern hardware:
I got an incredible deal on a barely used G4 dual 800 w/ 1.25 GB RAM, and after connecting my Epson SC740, Kensington Expert Mouse (trackball), and Griffin iMic (for audio input), I've used-up all the USB ports.
I've read that all hubs are not equal, and I'd like to hear from y'all which brands / models are working well for you (or which ones didn't), ideally on similar hardware / software (I'm running X.2.8 on this box).

Here's an idea though - since you're running OS X, why not get a 4 port USB 2.0 card and skip the external hub entirely?
I just got the Adaptec 4 port USB 2.0 card on a great deal from CompUSA. Unfortunately, that rebate is no longer available, but you can still get it from YesMicro, shipping included for $39.95. That will give you 6 USB ports total - the two built-in USB 1.1 ports and 4 new USB 2.0 ports. Considering that a hub will cost at least half that or more with shipping, not a bad deal and a lot less desktop spaghetti.

And a 7 port modular Belkin hub (color is not near as important on the iMac) at the house.
The nly complaint is the Logitech scroll mouse has to be unplugged and replugged every so often, but that, I think is the mouse itself, becuase it doesn't seem to matter which port iss used.
Run a Zip drive, an Epson printer, and soon the Zip CR-RW.

I still use my Beige unit along with the G4 933. It makes me appreciate the G4 more.

I've got the same hub. Bought it when I bought the iMac using OS9.04 and still use it with OSX.2.8. The only issue I can ever recall was some sort of problem that involved my scanner being connected when not in use. That only happened with OS9. Since moving to OSX, I forgot about that issue--and didn't realize that I've had my scanner connected all the time for months (nearly a year) without a problem until I read this thread. Other than that, I never even think about the hub.
