I have two macs - my ibook G3 600mhz 384mb RAM running Panther
and I have my imac 233mhz 160mb Ram which was running Panther, but now I put X.2.8 on it.
Macromedia Contribute 2 which helped me build a website on will only run on X.2.8. So my idea was running it on my imac.
It started then when I want it to connect dot mac - the screen goes dark. presumably out of memory.
What if I make a network between both machines would it be any better?
I have had absolutely no joy from Macromedia.

Aside from connecting to .mac how's the imac doing?

The only thing that will help is adding more memory to your computers. Memory is very cheap, though it's not easy to install in a tray-loading iMac. Networking the computers will not help.

Have you run the hardware diagnostic CD that came with you iMac? I would give it a try and see if the memory fails. Another possibility is it changing some monitor settings that the iMac can't handle. Does the iMac seem to be still working? Can you hit Command-Q and hear the hard drive working? If your keyboard has a power-on button on it, will it shut down if you hit the power on button and then the return key? This might tell you that the computer is not locked up and that the screen just freaked out. This might help in trouble shooting the problem. Does the problem occur when you connect to .mac using contribute? Or does it do it when going to the web page? Or when you access your iDisk? Is contribute trying to ftp the files up to .mac when this happens?

finally i got it working - wish i thought of it earlier. it's a bit sluggish.
If I made a local network between the imac and the ibook do you think it would work better?
At least then I could use Flash as well.
