Title: exclude internal modem

as I use Netgear DG814 this cancels out the Apple internal modem, is there any software that can use the router to send a fax?
SmithMicro say their 'FAXstfX is not designed to to do this.

the default for sending a fax using Panther is the Apple internal modem which is disabled since I'm using a router!

You ever figure this out George?

Can you just use the Internal Modem with Dial Up to send a Fax?

Netgear advised me by e-mail yesterday that it is not possible to send a fax via their router.........which means if I want to send a fax using the Apple internal modem I should first unplug the router and re-enable the the modem.........not worth the hassle.
No doubt some cleverclogs will eventually include the facility in the next generation of routers.

I use a Linksys router with my DSL connection, but when I tried OS 10.3's faxing, all I had to do was plug a phone line into my TiBook and it worked just fine for sending. Apparently the internal modem will take over, having no effect on the router connection.

...What thomas said.  Using a router (connected to your ethernet jack)  in no way disables your internal modem.  You just need to plug a phone line into it.  I have two computers networked through a linksys router sharing my DSL connection.  I also have a phone line plugged in to my intenal modem port.  I have sent a couple of faxes using Panther just as a test.  It works fine.

P.S. after re-reading all your posts, I think you are making some faulty assumptions.  The router has nothing to do with sending a fax...  You are most likely using the router to network two or more computers together and/or to share a broadband internet connection.  Your fax does not need to go over a network nor does it have anything to do with the internet.  A fax is a direct phone line connection between your machine (a mac in this case) and the receiving fax machine. Therefore you just need to attatch a phone line to your modem port.  The fact that you have a router is irrelevant.

Hope this helps a little.

Thank you for answers I have done what you suggest.
I should have known not to take the advice given by Netgear as Gospel.
I will write out 100 times ' TS is my bible, Ts is my bible etc etc
