On MacMalls site they show the Radeon 8500 as 10 dollars more than the 9000 model. The 8500 is 179$ and the 9000 is 169$. Why is this? The 9000 is the better of the two right? They both have 64 mb.
Earlier I said I wasn't going to get a new video card... I think I am going to now and look for a cheaper LCD... Or maybe I will go with another CRT... Are "they" still saying that CRT is better for graphic design work than LCD? I know that used to be the case. Is it still true?

The 8500 is better for some things. Some Games.
The 9000 Pro was $130. Not now.

I'd recommend the 9000 Pro.

Kelly's right. They are both 64mb cards. The 9000 Pro is newer. The 8500 is better for certain games. It renders textures differently in certain games.
I tried to find a link but couldn't. they had a comparison somewhere.

Jay. You should probably take advantage of ATI's tradeup Program.

Wow. That trade up program sounds good. Lets see if i get this right though. The 9000 is $79, plus the $50 security deposit which I get back. so I am really only paying $79 plus S&H for the card?
When do I send in my existing video card? Before I receive my new card, or after?
The 9000 does not say Mac on the trade up site. Is it the mac version?

Well Jay. Without going through it there I can't say for certain.
I suspect the 9000 is not the mac version.
I think you'd pay $199 for the 8500 and then get it, then send your old Card in for $50 back.
May not be worth the trouble.
Probably easiest to just get the 9000 Pro.

Or somewhere else if you can find it cheaper.
You might have better luck just selling your old Card to someone.

Jay. Here's an ATI RADEON 9000 New, Open-Box $152.50 if you get to it in time.
