Title: vhs tapes to digital video?

Like some individuals in the winter of their years (maybe that should be autumn) I have collected at least a couple of dozen (2-3 hours tapes) of the usual holidays and family weddings, christenings, you know the usual thing.
I would like to transfer this on to cd dvd ( I don't know) can anyone advise on (UK) hardware required.
I do have Pinnicle and Final Cut software.
Have G4 MD's (Final Cut)
G3
Two self build firewire etc PC's (hush my mouth)
Canon 550i camcorder
JVC VHS vcr

Have you used that Canon with iMovie or anything yet?  

Hard to tell if it's supported.

If it has a Firewire Port on the Camcorder get a 6 Pin to 4 Pin Firewire Cable.

I have used the Canon for the past couple of years in conjunction with iMovie, that's not the problem, its the conversion of vhs tapes to dv which when converted I can then use iMovie,

You want to utilize the Digital Video Pass-Through aspect of the Canon.

This should be discussed in your manual.
