-------------------------------------------------------------------
I posted this under Backup but realized I should have posted it as a question:
iMac G3, 233 mhz, 160mg Ram, OS 9.1
Speaking of backing up, after many frustrating weeks of trying to replace an unreadable Imation SuperDisk (trust me, it's toast) my new one has finally arrived and will be picked up tomorrow. Do I use the old CD to install the driver, then do an update, or is that Iomega I see on the HD compatible with Imation? I think I read somewhere that installation is not necessary with OS9 as it is supported.
Second question: My software updater shows CD burner as a possible installation. Can my now ancient iMac use this? If so, how? I wouldn't be downloading music.

Fiona. If you threw your old Imation Software away, reinstall it.
Not the same as Iomega.
This is latest update I see.

Are you asking about a CD "Burner"?
If so. You have two options.
Replace the existing imac CD-ROM. Probably not for you.
Buy an External CDRW Burner that has a USB connection.
They sell ones that have a USB and Firewire connections.
This would be good for using the faster Firewire connection on a newer computer.
is this what you're asking?

Thanks, Kelly. After reading the reviews, I'm a little nervous and skeptical. Here is an email I got from the Imation support guy: 'To make your USB SuperDisk Drive work properly with OS9 or higher, do not load any additional extensions or drivers, because support for the SuperDisk is native to OS9.0 and higher.' What does that mean?
And yes, I was asking about burning CDs. Thanks for your answers.

Sounds like that means just plug it in and that should do it.
There's nothing to be nervous about.
There's plenty of places here to buy a Burner for your machine.
Maybe someone else can help you with a Canadian Reseller.

Fiona, I too have an Imation SuperDrive. And yes, the driver for it is built in to OS 9.
You should have the following extensions as part/components of OS 9:
1. USB Device Extension
2. USB Software Locator
3. USB Apple Monitor Module
None of the following should be present in your OS 9 Extensions folder (If they are, they must be trashed).
1. USB Mass Storage Extension
2. USB Mass Storage Support USBHID Universal Module
3. USB PrintDrive
4. USB SuperDiskDrive
5. USB SuperDiskUTDriver

Harv:
1,2,3, check, check, check. I also turned off the print sharing extension. None of the others you mentioned were present, so I guess I'm good to go.
Thanks, guys.

I'd consider one of these if I was looking.
I've been quite happy with my Refurb SCSI Burner
and my Refurb SCSI External Hard Drive.
