Title: RIP, State
Post by: Gregg on March 17, 2003, 12:58:00 PM
Sorry RHP, your Buckeyes ran out of gas, but what a run they had, winning three out of four in four days. Illinois does have a better team than Wisconsin this year. If not for an end of the half gift to MSU against the Illini*, there would have been, could have been, a tie at the top.

Which team in each conference will go the farthest? I'm picking my Illini from the Big Ten-11, and my son's Mizzou Tigers from the Big 12. No bias there, nope. (Roy Williams is right, Kansas got the shaft on the seedings. What a tough conference!)

*The replays clearly showed the half-court shot was released after the buzzer went off, red light came on.

Gregg ...yes they (Buckeyes) ran out of gas for sure. I think your right...the Illini...may go the farthest in the Big Dance. They are a tough team.
Good Luck to them...I will be rooting for them as I would like to see a Big Ten team take all the marbles.

Good Luck Illinois!

The Big Ten-11 has been more competitive in the NCAAs since starting its own conference tournament. Last year, Wisconsin went to the Final Four. There's quite a stir up here in Cheeseland, with three state teams receiving bids. Of course, if UW-Milwaukee wins, they play the winner of W. Kentucky vs. .... Illinois! I've got no problem deciding who to root for.

Oskee-Wow-Wow! (any other alums out there, feel free to correct my spelling)

Bruce Pearl was a Tom Davis assistant coach for fourteen years.

Another former Davis assistant was Gary Williams of Maryland.

Yep. Thought it was close enough that RHP would take the bait. Should have put "Ohio" in there.

Testing a new avatar. Didn't change old posts. I hope it changes with a new one, the "Big Dance" is underway...

Having nephews who went to MSU, I'm hoping they will make it to the Final Four. Also, Central Michigan, but that is such a tough division.

Does anyone understand those regional placements? How do two teams from Michigan get into the South and West regions?

Makes no difference where you come from to where you go.

The selections this year have been more criticized than most years.

I have never seen anything like the West Bracket this year.

Way too tough.

Not to mention the BYU fiasco.

Well, CMU has proven to be a rock solid team, a good mix of players whose chemistry has cemented... ok, enough beating around the bush, CMU also stands for Concrete Masonry Unit (concrete block)

So far, a 4 a 6 a 7 and an 8 have lost - and that's just the first full day. More tonight, perhaps?

Lots of close calls with the high seeds.

With all the best players going to the Pros early there isn't a sure thing any more.

Looking forward to the Second Round games.

There's been a lot of great games.

So far, one of the better Tournaments.

As always. A 12 beat a 5.

Kelly  as you said...and I said...another 12 knocks off a 4..(Butler over Louisville)...

Gregg , I was surprised the Illini got knocked off...ND looks good too. MS maybe the team to watch now!

How about that Arizona Game?

Lots of other good ones.

Yeah, Roy. The excitement of the tournament was pretty much deflated in our household in consecutive games on the same court. First Illinois falls, then Missouri. Subsequent games have been riveting, but it's not the same when your team isn't there anymore.

Yeah  Gregg , I know exactly what you mean. Well my next team to keep an eye on is Wisconsin!

Having graduated from MSOE back in '68 I've a soft spot in my head, er heart, for Wisconsin. Sure hope they can take out Kentucky.

Got my fingers, toes, eyes crossed for the Spartans against the Terps come Thursday. Duke was just too much for my CMU guys. They were tough though.

Great games. Best March madness I've seen in a long long time.

Sidebar for an admin. Does the Preview Post button work? Nothing happens when I click on it. Also, I mentioned it before, but the graemlins don't tell you their names when you scroll over them. Can that be fixed?

Steve. Preview works for me in all my Browsers.

Which one are you using?

Did they ever show names?

Don't know why you need them but you can Bookmark this.

Well Steve, I've been transplanted all of my adult life. So many people who live in Wisconsin were also born and raised here; just the opposite of my last adopted home state, Colorado. So, while I don't often find myself rooting for the local teams, I'll have to cheer on Marquette now, even though they knocked out my son's Tigers.

(By the way, if you're watching a Missouri home game on TV next season, and they show a young man in a yellow suit with a tiger print tie screaming his head off, that's my son. He was a CBS "fan of the game" at least once this season. Unfortunately we don't get the feed here for many of those contests.)

I do root for Marquette when they aren't playing one of my favorite teams, but my other son is looking into Saint Louis University, a member of Conference USA. And since I'm a Illinois alum, I can't bear rooting for another Big Ten-11 team.

That Duke-Kansas game was pretty good.

I have no problem pulling for other Big Ten teams.

Though mostly I just enjoy the good Basketball.

You got Duke-Kansas in Iowa City? Of course, in Milwaukee, we got Marquette. Did you get the Wisconsin-Kentucky match up in the first game? I wonder who gets to decide which station gets what feed?

Goal - din E - gulls !!

It's all I've got left.

Editorial Update

Gregg:

You would have gotten a rise out of this unreconstructed Buckeye, 'cept I had the flu (big time) for about 10 days. Bummer (cubed).

Oh well, the NCAA will come again, but I trust not the flu.

RHP, glad you're feeling up to surfing again. Better lay off the hang gliding for a bit longer though.    I figured you must be on vacation, but then, you probably travel with a laptop, eh?

As for the tournament, at least I can root against the last Big Ten-11 team anybody expected to be still standing this late, because I've got our home town team to root for still.

This entire City will be glued to the TV for the Big Dance. Marquette golden fever has struck!

Besides, it's 30 degrees and wrelly slippy outside.

Not a single vote for Tom Crean as coach of the year!

Were getting 4-6" of snow tonight!

Marquette can do it but Texas looks tough.

Gary, wrong on both counts.

The best line in Sunday's paper: "Kansas was your teenager. They had an answer for everything."

Could be a good game tonight.

You never know.

It will be good for one of the coaches to get his first.

Kind of that John Elway thing.

Congratulations Syracuse.

That was a good game.

That coach always seemed like a decent guy.

Happy for him.

Ok, Todd. What did your message say before the edit?

Looked like another blow out for awhile. I was surprised that Kansas got it down to one shot chances near the end. The last two minutes were great.

Next year's winner: Illinois!
