My son's PowerBook 3400 has lost its hard drive. When I start it up, the folder and question mark appear, and the computer will not load the OS 9.
I booted up with TechTool Pro and ran it. I manipulated the software to search for any "missing volumes", and it found the PowerBook's hard drive!
Then I received a message that the volume directories need to be "rebuilt" on the hard drive. But the "Rebuild" button, on TechTool Pro, is grayed out, so I cannot do a rebuild. Plus, I cannot see the PowerBook's hard drive on the desktop.
Please advise.

Do you by chance have DiskWarrior? That would probably do the trick...
I'm sorry I don't know why the option is greyed out in TechTools... are you using a new enough version like at least 3.0.5?

Dreambird,
Thank you for replying. I did try DiskWarrior and
had no success. I have been using TechTool 3.0.6
without success.
I think it may be time to initialize the hard drive (yeech!).
