Just last week I noticed that the volume in my headphones was more pronounced in the left ear than the right, especially when I jacked up the volume. I immediately thought I had somehow damaged them when carrying them around in my schoolbag.
But today, I dug up my old headphones out of a box (I should have done this right away) and plugged them in.
I GET THE SAME EFFECT.
So right away I think I must have the balance in iTunes screwed up, and I go to find it. I can't find anything with left-to-right balance. Strange, because I thought I had done something with that before, but I did what I could, and turned off the Equalizer and all the effects in iTunes 4 (like "Sound Enhancer"). Still, there is this lack of balance in ALL my songs in iTunes.
I've got three ideas:
1) iTunes 3 & now iTunes 4 didn't jive with my computer- the time I downloaded iTunes 3 is right around the time this problem arose.
2) Virus- I may have downloaded a virus, probably from a disgruntled artist uploading it to the music servers to sabotage users' experiences (think: Madonna)
3) Computer hardware is damaged- I don't like this one.
To check to see if it's iTunes software or settings (that I'm incompetent to find and change), I'm going to download a music program right now, but I thought I'd post this so others could compare.
Help???
Thanks as always.

You mention iTunes 4 so I am assuming OS X.
--go to System preferences>sound..
Check your balance setting there

Swhitset, you're glorious!! Problem solved!
I almost sent in my Sennheiser HD600's- new from my brother- to warranty (the result of which would have been, "Uh, sorry dude, you're heeadphones are great"). I want to kiss you right now.
I knew I screwed with balance, but I couldn't remember where and why I wouldn't have returned it to normal.
Music! I love music!
