2003 / Postscript color printer for OSX?
« on: September 10, 2003, 11:40:56 AM »
Hello,
Does anyone know if there is a postscript color printer out there for OSX? I presently use the Epson Stylus 1520 with RIP software, however Epson doesn't have a Sylus RIP software update for OSX out yet, so I have to restart my computer in OS9 whenever I need to print color. I'm not happy with this printer anyway as the paper feed doesn't work 80 percent of the time! (it shoots the page through without printing anything on it - very annoying to say the least).

I also need my color printer to print at least up to 11 x 17 inch paper... this is very important, as I'm a graphic design professional and use that size frequently.

Any advice would be welcome... thanks!

2003 / Transferring files from Mac to PC

The problem is the actual dimensions of the page size increase... I recently sent an ad that was 9.5 wide, and when it got there it was over 10.5 inches wide. It could, however, be something to do with the operator on the other end, I know for a fact he's not very computer literate.

Thanks for your help....
Sarah

I have often send files (PDFs or JPEGs) from my Mac (OSX 10.2.6, using Entourage email program) to PC users - and according to the person on the other end, they come out larger than they are supposed to. Why is this?????? I've tried using encoding for "all computers" and for "Windows", and neither one seems to work. What's the deal????

2003 / PDF to MSWord?

Does anyone know an easy way to convert a PDF document to an MSWord document? I have a 150-page PDF with multiple tables, and I need to convert it to Word... help!

(Aside from copying and pasting and re-formatting the text... is there a program out there that does the conversion for you?)

It does work in OS9. I can see the CD icon on my desktop and I can burn CDs from OS9, just not OS10.

I did run the disk utility, and also TechTool Deluxe, on it last night... still nothing this a.m. in OS 10.

Haven't tried trashing the preferences yet... do you know where I find that file or what it's called?

thanks--

I did just add on an external hard drive... do you think it could have something to do with that? But the CD icon still doesn't show when the external hard drive is turned off...

Hello Krissel,
I am running a powermac G4, dual processor with OSX (10.2) and OS9 installed. Before, a blank CD icon would appear on my desktop when I inserted a blank CD into the CD drive. Then I would just drag and drop files onto that blank CD icon. I would then drag the icon to the trash to "burn" the CD. It was that simple. But now the CD icon is nowhere to be found, and my system doesn't seem to recognize that there is a blank CD in the CD drive.

thanks-
Sarah

Hello,
Now I have a new problem... I can't see the icon for a blank CD on my desktop. Also the blank CD doesn't show up anywhere in my system preferences. I do get a window that says" you inserted a blank CD. Choose what to do..." and Action: Open Finder, Name: Untitled. But then I press ok and... nothing. No CD anywhere to be found! I have no problems viewing a CD if there is already something on it, but if there is nothing on it, it's invisible. This just started happening recently... it worked fine before, and I was able to burn CDs with no problems.
Any ideas?

2003 / Color correction.
« on: March 19, 2003, 03:05:00 PM »
I deal with this problem on a day-to-day basis. It makes my life miserable. My lastest client has a logo I designed using PMS 286 (rich dark blue). Their printer is printing it out at about more like PMS 313 (peacock blue)... in other words, totally off. My advice to them was to use the professionally printed letterhead, or get some kind of color management system for their computers (Windows - which I'm not very familiar with - I use ColorSync for my Mac, which is pretty good). I also printed out a long list of color troubleshooting tips about their printer off the hp website. You might want to try doing the same for your printer. But I would definitely advise using some kind of color management software!

For photos, we match our monitor to the printout and go from there. It's the best method as far as I'm concerned. (We have two computers, one that we do most of the photo work on and one for graphic design).

Hopefully color management will become less of a hassle in the near future. I'm patiently waiting!

2003 / QuarkXPress 5
« on: March 19, 2003, 03:11:00 PM »
I wouldn't bother upgrading to 5. I did and regretted it. $200 later (it could have been $300 if I didn't have a special deal) and it still doesn't run in OSX. It does run in Classic, but not without some problems. I would advise to just run Quark 4 in OS9 until Quark 6 comes out. I really feel like I wasted my money!

2003 / Swatch Libraries don\'t show in Illustrator 10
« on: March 19, 2003, 12:26:00 PM »
Hi All!
My swatch libraries do not show up in Illustrator 10.0.3 in OSX (under window-swatch libraries). However, when I open the same Illustrator app. in OS9, they are there.
Anyone know why???
thanks!
Sarah
