2003 / Quicktime Update Question
« on: December 23, 2003, 06:15:23 PM »
I guess I haven't used the iBook in a couple weeks and when I got on tonight I had several updates....but the Quicktime update is giving me fits. It is calling for a registration number, and then says if you don't have it leave it blank....well it is not accepting blank. I really don't think I ever registered with Quicktime, each time it would pop up I would bypass that step.....How/where will I find a number to register? Any clues will be greatly appreciated. It is possible I don't really need the update anyway. I don't believe I've used Quicktime that much....thanks, trish

« on: September 20, 2003, 09:58:06 AM »
Yes, I have gotten about 6 of these nasty  upset.gif  emails...I recognized it as being a virus from something I'd recently read, but Norton didn't pick it up....I can't wait to get a new Rx for glasses so I can use the iBook more often....that 12" screen is a problem right now....trish

2003 / Comcast slow connection in NJ using iMac
« on: August 26, 2003, 05:15:16 PM »
I might add it's not just Comcast that is having a problem. I am on DSL with Verizon and I have had to call them almost every day for the past few weeks....it is just the most frustrating thing....I have two p.c.'s and the iBook hooked up thru a router, disconnected the router, tried the iBook alone, tried p.c. #2 and couldn't do anything....finally got thru to Verizon after 11:00 p.m. The tech got me up on the modem alone (that was after midnight) I just left it and went to bed....this morning, I couldn't do anything with it, so got online with the dial up, and unplugged the whole DSL setup and went to work. Tonight, planning to come home and spend some "quality time"  upset.gif with Verizon techs, and it's ok on the modem only, but couldn't move with the router....I may have to reconfigure something, but didn't take the time. I did a complete virus scan on the p.c. last night and it was clean....So, to make a long story short, I know the frustration....trish

2003 / How about this?
« on: August 01, 2003, 05:43:45 PM »
This is quite interesting. I have 4 browsers opened.....Safari and IE 5.2 on the iBook. With Safari I see the grayish carpet looking "whatever" about 3/4's of the way down and the wheels.  With IE 5.2 there is a flash of the gray, a "toot" "toot" and then the whole picture of the car.

On the p.c. I have the MSN8 browser opened and IE 6.0.2 and I don't even see the text link at all in either of them. I have one more browser to open on the iBook (that is MSN8 for Macs)...trish

Thanks "tacit" for the info....I was online, but it was that "DHCP" that clicked in my fuzzy head and did the trick....I had not unclicked the PPPoE option in the Network Preferences.....trish

2003 / Networking iBook ?
« on: July 28, 2003, 10:20:45 PM »
Since the software that came with the Linksys router doesn't seem to apply to Macs, and the instructions on the Linksys website applied to OS9, I'm sort of at a loss as to how to get the iBook hooked up. I've been running it on DSL by itself, and I will call Verizon tomorrow since they will support the Linksys routers (wired) but for the time being if anyone could point me in the right direction I shall be most grateful.....but now it is time  sleep1.gif trish

Good luck in your move to Oregon....I lived in Central Oregon for a year and really miss the northwest. I came in the back door though, from AZ, but I'd moved from CA to AZ....The first thing I did after moving in was go to the DMV to get those "foreign" plates off my car....trish

Rob, I've only had Verizon for a few weeks and have been very pleased with the service. I have not had major issues with them, but I'm sure if I did they would be taken care of in a timely manner..... thumbup.gif for Verizon....I'm going to look into that all in one deal myself.....trish

Rebates can be tricky, but this Compaq that I saw in the flyer was $100 Compaq  mail in rebate, $50 HP  Mail in rebate and $100 Instant Savings (this one on the web said "web only rebate") So there wouldn't be any lock into an ISP......trish

2003 / What do I need to connect
« on: June 29, 2003, 10:02:49 AM »
I was told by Verizon, they can share the DSL modem, but I have to disconnect the USB for the p.c. and then connect the ethernet cable for the iBook, and not both connected at the same time......I have them almost side by side, so that is not a problem. I'm sure there is a networking whiz that can fill you in on that part, but without buying more equipment this works for me now...trish
