DK76  welcome.gif to the "Adventures of MrsLop",

thanx.gif for the invaluable links to the sites. I have been there reading about what they have to offer.

WOW.gif I was very impressed with what I have read thus far.

One thing I did notice was the size of the program. 100MB is pretty large.

I was most concerned with my husband, Tom, being able to use it for sending out a large volume of email using his addresses for his online publishing. He has had quite a few problems since simply using our ISP to view and compose mail. I thought I would try to find something more suitable for his needs. He gets timed out. It's alright for viewing and answering simple email, but not too good for composing and sending email. He has been so busy with work that he hasn't had too much time to even learn too much about their version of address book.

Thanks again for replying.

Blessings and Prayers,
MrsLop

Evening Chris,

I went to the Mozilla site and have been reading about the two available programs.

BTW, there has been an update, something about fixing a bug.You didn't mention the version you were using so you might want to check the latest version by using the link that D76 provided.

I don't know if you read my reply to Kris, but I was able to finally fix the problems with the Mail program.

If Tom decides that Mail doesn't meet his laundry list of needs, at least I have an alternative for him to try.

thanx.gif Glad that you added your reply. It sounds like a great program from what I've read thus far.

Love,Blessings and Prayers,
Myrna

Evening Paddy,

Happy to hear that from you!  clap.gif
thanx.gif  for the reply and will keep the information handy for Tom to investigate should he find the current program unsuitable for his needs.

Good Evening,Kris,

Thanks again for clarifying the Mail subject. I was successful in setting up separate accounts (Home) for Tom; and my Intercessory Prayer mail, which always needs to have a separate mechanism for those who require a reply. Tom and I lead the Intercessory Prayer Team - but we usually reply to individuals as the Intercessory Prayer Team, unless we personally know the individuals requesting prayer. We immediately needed to set up at least three accounts.

I went back and deleted the accounts set up in my Home and that solved the problem. Everything is working fine now. blush-anim-cl.gif

Myrna

sos.gif  Anybody,

I was set up as the Administrator on Mac OS 10.3.9. I have attempted to enable user accounts for Mail correctly. No matter what I do and even when I log into my Identity, my husbands mail keeps getting downloaded to my Mail account. I am sure that there is something that I must be overlooking.

Are these accounts viewable to me because I am the Systems Administrator?

I used the drop down menu and used the check for mail Manually on my account and the other accounts.

Do I need to Delete these accounts from personal Home screen? If so, how do I do this?

I have set up a separate account for my husband and he has his own password to get to his "Home" and for the others as well.

I am totally clueless dntknw.gif

MrsLop

Good Day to you from Sunny Rhode Island, Kris,

Well, as per our phone conversation, Cox only uses POP and automatically supported Outlook Express when we first began using their service.

I am not too enthused by this Setting up accounts for each mail user, as I find it a bit tedious just to get mail from an ISP on my Desktop. There definately is a learning curve involved. I finally wound up starting new Accounts that you had suggested. This seems to be working. He can now compose, send and receive mail. The rest is up to him as to how he wants to tailor it to his own needs. He will have to deal with how to set up group addresses etc...

Tom doesn't want to download all his mail to the Desktop, having learned, as I did about the dreaded End of File using Outlook. He wants to be able to compose without timing out automatically, have a more versatile way to use his group addresses, send webpage links to himself and do school related stuff.

I don't have enough familiarity with this newer Mac OS X Mail. My needs are far more simple and straightforward.

I am trying to coax him to use OS X. If he uses it for any length of time I think that he will be quickly weaned from the OS 9.2.2. He is not jumping on the OS X bandwagon just yet and is reserving judgement until he sees for himself if it is working to suit his needs.

He leaves the troubleshooting of the Mac to me and simply states when things don't/aren't working for him. Once I determine what he wants to do with the Mac, then I can attempt to deal with it.

Blessings and Prayers,
Myrna

Good Morning from Sunny Rhode Island, Gregg,

I don't know what happened to the rest of my post....?

"and given some time, he will be showing me features, shortcuts etc... that I never knew existed."

Tom has always used Windows at school; and his experience on PCs spans at least ten years. The school has designated him the Windows troubleshooter in the past. With that designation came workshops and additional conferences to increase his knowledge of PC's. Coincidentally, in 2003, the thought that a Mac was preferable to a PC began to grow. Our ISP was invaded by the worms. He checked in at the school and found that the open pipeline ISP, had rendered any computer that had been left on, useless. That was a costly and very unfortunate way of learning a lesson. There I was cruising along on the PowerPC 4400 during the whole invasion. That was a true AHA! moment. So, Tom began using the Mac and really enjoyed the experience. He used it for all of his work - oersinal and school related. That Summer, while I was exhausted after Chemotherapy and Radiation treatments, there he would be, right in front of the Mac.

So, the adventure begins for Tom, as well.
Blessings and Prayers,
Myrna

Evening All,

Though my husband is very happy that we now have a working system and printer, he would like me to set up an email program that is more user friendly.
ie. He would like to be able to have a mail program that is user friendly and easily accessible on the Desktop.

I already have a program called Mail on the system. I don't know how to configure it or how to use this OS very well - yet. Specifically, how to add individual accounts. I tried to set up email for my husband using this Mail program and it began downloading all mail from the account belonging to my husband to my user name. Well, he has a lot of mail. That didn't work out too well.

I would appreciate the views of any/ all you members who use an email program that you can open on your Desktop, that is user friendly (easy), and allows you to have five or six mailboxes. Oh, and did I mention that it should be free?

 thanx.gif  for your help.
Blessings and Prayers,

Jane,

That is good news. Hoping that it doesn't get too wild today for you. I've been to Falmouth. Good thing that you have a generator as a backup.

Hello,

Yes NE got hit in certain places with the Cape being hit pretty hard. RI had about 10,000 homes lose their power during the worst part of the storm. By 11PM though, power was restored to all but around 100.

Today, in RI we are supposed to experience some very strong winds, so I am hoping that we don't lose power.

Blessings and Prayers to you and yours,
Myrna

cheer.gif Kris cheer.gif ,

Kris to the rescue again! I just followed your directions and it worked and I am absolutely thrilled to the core!

I just told Tom (very low key type person) - he is grinning from ear to ear. He said, " I thought I detected an old familiar sound." As the LaserWriter churned out pages of text of this topic. He is concentrating on entering grades for his students right now, so I didn't want to distract him.

thumbup.gif  thanx.gif and Amen to this printing " Adventure" at last!

I can't thank you enough, Kris. Anything to keep Tom happy. Now we can have a choice between the black and white for most of our printing and color for special things like cards etc.

Love, Blessings and Prayers,
Myrna

PS: Tom has been playing on the B&W. Entering data, using AppleWorks, iCab, FireFox and Safari, playing a game  and checking his email. Before long he'll be cruising along on OSX and

Greetings All,

Ok. We're up and running using the Router, the HP Deskjet and connected to the Internet.

...Still, I am wondering and wondering  Thinking.gif how to get the old Personal LaserWriter 320 up and running. Can I use the Farallon to connect to the hub and then  to connect to the Linksys? It should work now with this Linksys or do I need any other cables, wires or cards to install. I broke the clips on my Ethernet Cable doing all the "gymnastics" of fishing cables and wires behind my computer desk hutch. Methinks I have to make a trip to Radio Shack or CompUSA to buy another Ethernet Cable...

Has anyone tried to connect their old printer this way without an Airport Basestation?

Your replies are appreciated and  thanx.gif ,

Blessings and Prayers,
MrsLop

Hello Nightowl, aka Chris,

WOW.gif In less than 24 hours of having received the HP and router, I am now all set up and running all devices!

I googled security on WiFi and wireless networks and got a blow by blow description and laymans terms on security features tonight. It's been a real education already.

Besides, I now have my gold medal for mental and physical gymnastics in connecting and reconnecting devices.

I am so happy and relieved! Tom was very pleased to see the printer working; and even more so, when I successfully got the router connected properly.

He admitted to trying out the B&W in the wee hours to see how it worked. He was able to access and open his documents in OS 9, but not in OSX. He will probably experiment with using his beloved little iCab. I downloaded v. 3.0.3 for him and placed the copy of his Hotlists that I got using the zip from the PowerMac 4400. He can get to the internet, print from the internet and work to his heart's content now.

He may even forget about the Personal LaserWriter 320 after awhile. He really liked the print quality of this machine.

I will definately have to get a reference book on Panther. Tom is very good at using systems and experimenting with new apps. I'm sure that in a few months he'll be showing me some features that I didn't know existed.

Now I can finally do some research and get up to date info from the American Cancer Society et al...

I just knew it was going to be a bumpy ride for a little while, with set up and learning to use new apps. Fortunately, my TS Angels have been very busy. whew.gif

Off to get some well deserved sleep1.gif

Love, Blessings and Prayers,
Myrna

2006 / Disabling mail accounts
« on: October 26, 2006, 10:41:05 PM »
Evening Richard,

I checked the Yahoo mail to find the answer to this.

Your base name cannot be removed as it is used to create disposable email addresses.

I suggest you send them a personal email to try to find a workaround. I couldn't find any real answers using their Mail Help. The above was the only information given.

The way it was done a few years ago had to do with mail box capacity. When it became full, they just didn't pass any more current mail through to the account.
Your only hope is that you reach a limit and the box will be too full to receive any more mail.  I think that mail received after that causes the mail to revert back to the sender. This happened to my husband, who went over his free limit two years ago. Senders who had a second email address for him, then tried to contact him via the secondary email address he supplied to them when he registered for their subscriptions; and he was able to give them the new email address,  if he wished.

I hope that you can get it resolved.

Blessings and Prayers,
MrsLop
