you are the greatest  biggrin.gif

thank you so much.  we are now able to transfer the quicktime movie and play it on quicktime on the PC and import it in premiere as well.  I am still not sure why it affected premiere but I don't care as long as it worked!!  We also updated our quicktime player and possibly that helped.  Whatever it was I owe you HUGE!  thank you thanx.gif

we have imovie3 and I am not sure what the compressor is, I went to export and tried to find some settings but am lost  sad.gif
sorry

I just tried again so i can be more descriptive with you... I exported the file as quicktime and used full quality dv format.  I then went to connect to server and linked to the pc I need to transfer to.  I went to that computer and the person there tried to play it, the error that came up said it was not a file that quicktime understands.  We tried importing into premiere which should import mov files and it said it was unsupported.  I am thinking it's just in the transfer or something like that because the files all work in their desired applications on the mac, ex quicktime, premiere, but the same files won't work in the same programs on the pc...

ugh! (thanks so much for your time on this!!!)

the way our system is set up we captured into imovie from the cameras then tried exporting as quicktime file and transferring, that didn't work.  then we took the exported file and imported it in premiere on the imac and exported it from there as an mov file; we tried transferring that and it went again without an extension.  then just to test if it was incompatibility/our stupidity we just saved the premiere file and tried transferring the ppj file and opening it in premiere on the pc which also didn't work.  Most times it didn't even show an extension on the file

Hello! I work for a digital video department in a college computer lab.  We recently got a mac for a new editing suite but but are quite inexperienced with them.  We are having trouble transferring the mov files made in premeire or imovie to the pc's; every time we try to transfer across the network the extension is lost.  One time we got lucky and there was an extension but it still would not play or import into premiere on the pc.  We found this problem during a media camp we held a few weeks ago and have another in a week.  I am desperate to find out what we are doing wrong and I can't seem to track down anyone who knows enough about macs and is around for the summer.  I have been put in charge of figuring this out and I am the least technical of the group.  Can anyone help me?? unsure.gif
thank you so much, lori
