2003 / G4 867 QS just died!! Please Help.
« on: July 16, 2003, 01:21:05 PM »
Thanks,

Last night I pulled the video card and tried to boot. I think it worked!! I can't be certain as I have no video card but the machine gave it's tone and the drive started to spin and the button stayed lit.

When I put the card back in the problem comes back.

So I'm gonna borrow a video card and try again.

Ok Thanks I looked into both posts and no luck.

There are a few slight differences between their problems and mine.

1. Link Post #2 from above said that there is no Fan noise or power. In mine I do get power to all the proper connections, except the "green wire" which seems to indicate the status of the front power button somehow.  My Fans all come on.

2. Link Post #1 said that when he took out his ram he got the Ram Error chime. Mine doesn't make any noise even if ram is out.

The CD or any other drives do not respond. It doesn't even try to boot the startup drive.

Please give me any suggestions Big or small, you never know!! New boards are expensive and that might not be the problem.

Ok, I'm new here but maybe you guys can help.

Problem: G4 will not boot up.

Symptom: 1. Power light comes on when touched but then goes out when let go.
2. Red led on Logic board comes on.
3. Fans and power bus to board are all operational.
4. Heat sink on CPU does start getting warm, as per normal operation.
5. No Video, No attempt to spin the startup disk, no beeps or any other sounds.

I took it to my local guy who said he thought it was the logic board. Another opinion from somewhere else said it wasn't.

I tried the PMU reset and logic board resets but still no change.

First occured after leaving the machine on over night. Screen was frozen and did not respond to any keys. I had to un-plug and replug in. Then the problem occured.

Any Ideas???

Thanks,

Charles
