2003 / cable modem help

Can anyone tell me how I configure my older os 7.5.5. mac into my cable modem?? With my new mac, I just enter "shawmail" in two places and I am in business. but the older system needs numbers that my provider (Shaw Cable) can't help me with. I can find help on the web, but they are all dialup orientated, not for cable modems.
A secondary question is the best way to get the old mac to see the new mac over the interrnet., assuming I get the old mac on.
