Has to do with US International keyboard. Be sure you have US-English selected.

Otherwise, saw on a Windows site that hitting the space bar after the quote key will then allow you to submit the next letter correctly without being an umlaut. That's assuming you do have the International keyboard selected.

Yes, you can download Pages for free from the App Store. Don't know about Word.  Lots of free apps available. :-)

Hi Sooz!

Good to hear from one of the "old timers". Actually, as Jim said, there isn't a lot of traffic here lately. Macs have become so easy to use with few of the problems we faced in the earlier days.

TS is just kind of hanging on, we had talked about pulling the plug but if all it costs is just renewing the server, then there is the possibility of extending our footprint for a little while longer. Seeing you here gives a bit of life to the forum.

Sounds like you have a really nice machine to play with. I'm a few OS versions behind the latest but tackle the changes as they come.

Again, welcome back!

Once in Finder, don't click on the Apple, click on "Presentation" as Jim said. That is where you will find something like "options de vue".  That should give you a window like Jim posted where you can turn off the grid setting.

I've encountered the same thing lately. I think there is a glitch either in the software or server.  Or maybe even Safari cause if I then use Firefox it goes through. Not sure it's anything we can fix.

That's not the Finder.  Click on the desktop. Now look at upper left corner of menubar at top. It should say Finder (or the French translation). Now look to the right for "View" (Vue?). Click on that. There should be a drop down window with several options and one should say something like "View Options" (in French or course). Click on that and you should get a new window with a way to turn on/off the grid.

I'm running Monterey but I think the usual way is to click on the desktop to get to Finder. Then go up to View in the Menubar at top. You should see "View Options". When that window opens look at your choices and select whatever turns off any grid options. Experiment to see which works for you.

This is a common situation. Running older OS  or iOS versions will often bring up that window. When there is a change in agreements with software updates they want you to basically sign in again to accept the changes. Sometimes just signing out and back in is enough for a while. But eventually they may pester you possibly to make you update or make your password better as it may not follow new requirements or they just want to verify it is really you, etc.

Thanks Jon, that brought back a lot of memories and proves some humor can be timeless.

I used to tell a similar version of that pun to my students about 50 years ago.  :whistling:

I doubt you will find many TS members who would sing the praises of Windows. Personally, I was vaccinated against the Microsoft virus 30 years ago and never looked back.

In Finder, go to Finder Preferences.

In General, be sure the CDs, DVDs and iPods is checked.

In Sidebar, be sure the CDs, DVDs and iOS devices is checked.

If all else fails, you could pick up an Apple Super Drive. Discontinued but still around.

Use Spotlight search for DVD Player. It is located in System/Library/CoreServices/Applications

If that doesn't work, try VLC player.
