2007 / OT... Happy Birthday MacHeadCase...
« on: March 07, 2007, 08:06:33 PM »
Hiya folks! Thank you for the wonderful wishes, all!

Have been ultra super busy with school as I am a full-time student in desktop publishing now. Learning Adobe Illustrator, Photoshop (not the eye candy stuff, the real heavy duty stuff), QuarkXPress, InDesign...  swoon.gif

But that's all right, I really feel alive when I learn.    biggrin.gif

And no Gregg, haven't seen the post you mention.

2006 / Got iBook off Ebay

Right, thanks for that.

I have just found my 10.4 disks from my iBook and bunged them in.

Now it says "Alert - this software cannot be installed on this computer".  Why not?

Thanks
Frances

Because that CD/DVD install disk can only be installed on the same type of machine. For example, if that OS install disk came with a 3rd generation G5 iMac it can only be installed on a 3rd generation G5 iMac and you can't use that same disk to install the OS on a G4 PowerMac for instance.

Unless they are made with applications that work in Tiger-only, files from a Tiger Mac can be copied over to a Panther Mac.

2006 / G4 Won't Boot With Monitor Attached

Welcome here, kp123!  smile.gif

I wonder if you couldn't borrow another monitor to test out the faulty monitor theory or maybe try using Gailwin's trick and see if it'll work.

Wouldn't this be an adapter or spacer of some kind to fit some third-party hardware?   dntknw.gif

A close-up photo would definitely help.

2006 / Kind of OT: (I guess) FREE COMPUTER!
« on: August 23, 2006, 06:46:28 AM »
Bruce, you might want to post this topic at the PowerWatch forums if no one is a taker here.

My first computer was a PowerComputing PowerCenter 150 desktop model and man that thing was a real workhorse and a speed demon. At the time, I was in school and we used the latest Macs for some of our stuff and I was so happy to come home to my clone! And for an equally equipped Mac model I would have had to dish out $1,000CAN more! And that's how I heard about the website, I would go there for my news and read about new PowerComputing models. Most people don't know this but PowerComputing got the G3 out first! and once it was out it was much faster than the Mac. That's when His Steveness got angry and pulled the plug on all Mac clone makers.

PowerWatch was the website Jeff Keller started to review PowerComputing models, post the Apple and PowerComputing news, give the specs of every PowerComputing model, benchmarks, head-to-head comparisons with equivalent Mac models, etc. He also started a PowerComputing users' forum.

While the Mac clones are long gone, the forums are still there. Some people still pop in there with upgrade cards questions and stuff.

2006 / iSighting and processor speed - the "real" limits
« on: July 23, 2006, 10:38:22 AM »
Apple's iSight webpage states as requirements:

QUOTE
Requires iChat AV Software (not included), Mac OS X v.10.2.5 or later, 600MHz G3 processor or higher, Broadband Internet connection.

So OS X Jaguar (minimum) and broadband seem to be the only two unknowns in this equation.  biggrin.gif

And your son would have to get an electrical adapter, I would think.

The UPS truck rolled up around 4 this afternoon and I've been having fun ever since...

I'd ordered a Canon 100mm f2.8 Macro lens from B&H on the weekend, and I dropped everything to try it out on my Digital Rebel. No bug is safe now! biggrin.gif

Beautiful photo, Paddy! That lens must have cost an arm and a leg!

And Jane... Spiders...

Brrrrrr!!! Augh! Run for your life!
