Why thank you so much!! I am still and always will be a Mac User! (except at work where they force me to use a PC against my will)  
I'm thinking about buying a small laptop for writing comedy - I just need to use MS Word on it and then e-mail the Word files to my iMac - any thoughts on the safest way (place) to buy a cheap refurbished Mac laptop?

Isn't it nice to have Tech Survivors looking out for you   even when it comes to the "geniuses" at the Mac Store?

I hope you enjoy your new computer!  And I hope you let your daughter try it out when she comes to visit.

Thank you so much for noticing that dead link krissel - yikes! will have to fix that!  
The link to our radio show is: http://www.greenpatriotradio.com  The show is often a bit too left coast for my lovely mom.

Well, thank you! Aren't y'all sweet?      

Best wishes to you, also! Well, I have been editing an Internet radio show on my work PC, but fortunately, now we beginning to edit videos which I can do from home on my Mac! So I'll be using iMovie and Final Cut Pro and sometimes just the simple editing program for Flip Video.

I also use PhotoShop to improve photos from our guests on the radio show (I don't do "cosmetic surgery" I just add more interesting backgrounds sometimes and crop and resize them.)

I recently built this website from my Mac: http://www.nutritionfreebies.com/

I also am on FaceBook and Twitter since I'm still somewhat of a young 'un.

And I'm using my Mac to write some comedy material for stand-up and comedy sketches.

It's nice to know that you all are here if I need help with my Mac!   Not that I just call when I need something. OK, well, it's sort of like that...

I thought y'all might be able to help me.  We have an online radio show (Green Patriot Radio on webtalkradio.net) and we want to start including audio clips from news videos.  I was wondering if you had any suggestions for inexpensive audio programs for the Mac that could do this.

Wow, thanks!  I didn't realize I could use my Mac as a living donor!  Very cool.  
So now I get to decide if I want to:

- Save money
- Save energy and the planet (per Al Gore)
- Save my beloved Mac
- Save people with brain-related diseases

Oh my!  At least now whatever I do, I am helping to save something.

I forgot to mention that I have an iMac which changes things a little.
I think you're right about the arguing - at least now I can say, "We were BOTH right!"

2007 / Energy Efficiency (Can you help to settle a family Mac debate?)

I come from a Mac family (yay!) but my mother recommends that I sleep my computer if I leave for a few hours or even overnight and I am inclined to turn it off every time I leave for more than 20 minutes to save electricity.

I recently edited a new environmental book at work, in which we recommend that people consider using Macs because they use less energy than virtually all PC's.  And the book also talks about the tremendous amount of energy that could be saved if everyone would turn out their computers at night.

However I haven't been able to find this information for Macs - whether it's better in terms of energy efficiency and wear and tear on the computer to sleep it or turn it off and on again, even 3 or 4 times a day?  I'm sure I could ask at my local two-story Mac Store (in LA at The Grove, check it out sometime!) but I thought someone at TS might know?

OK, this is embarrassing!  But how do you clear all the past google searches on your browser (in my case Safari) so that someone else (a new boyfriend) using my computer doesn't know that I researched them on Google?

I know it sounds silly, but I didn't have their name right so I put in a number of versions including all of their phone numbers.  In case anyone has a solution.... thanks!

2007 / Creating multi-page PDFs using Image Capture tools

Hi, I really need to learn to create PDF's with multiple pages but I don't have Illustrator (only Photoshop).

I read the following post from MACOSX hints but I don't understand the first part "Go to System/Library/Image Capture"  My Library folder doesn't seem to contain an Image Capture folder.  When I do a search for "Image Capture" it pulls up an application and when I click on it, my scanner starts operating (not what I wanted).

Here are the instructions:

Create multi-page PDFs using Image Capture tools
   
Go to System/Library/Image Capture. There we find two folders that contain some interesting stuff: "Automatic Tasks" and "Tools." In "Automatic Tasks," we have "Build Web Page" (BWP) and "Build Slide Show" (BSS), both of which have been covered here before (1, 2).

In "Tools," however, we find "makePDF." Dropping a bunch of pictures on the makePDF icon creates a multi-page PDF file containing your pictures.
