BarbZ - You actually make "gummy shark" sound interesting; with all due respects to XABD!  I assume the recipe doesn't call for hanging it around for days or weeks?  Thanks!

Nah! Like all fish, the fresher the better.
Can't vouch for the stuff you get at the fish 'n chip shop though. rolleyes.gif

I think the only time we had fish for breakfast was on holidays - Dad would catch it (very) early in the morning or overnight (rock, reef or surf fishing), come back & clean & cook it for breakfast. He spent most of the 2 weeks fishing - off the jetty or out in the dinghy were other alternatives.
None of us (my sisters & I) were into fishing then, but we were hoiked out of bed at 5am every morning to walk over to the back beach to pull the cray pots, followed by a freeeezing dip in the ocean before walking back.
He was still at it when we were all grown up & taking *my* kids over to the island for holidays.
Great days!
Can't do that any more - Garden Island now belongs to the navy & has very restricted day access only.

In Oz, if you buy fish 'n chips you'll almost certainly be eating shark, even if they tell you it's something else!
We used to catch gummy shark (commonly known as "flake") at Garden Island on holidays, often found small ones in the cray pots - according to this site they live on crayfish & such like.

gummy shark

Never did any of us any harm!
After a couple of weeks we used to get pretty sick of crays for breakfast, lunch & dinner though!! rolleyes.gif

Hiya Highmac!

Thanks for the welcome back.

Nothing much to report since my last visit (about 18 months ago!)
Had a quick 3 week trip to UK for Christmas 2006 - arranged with 2 weeks notice on one of those cheap charter flights for $AUS690 thanks to my son David in London. Left here Christmas Eve, arrived Gatwick 6am Christmas Day! Then drove to Shrewsbury in time for Christmas lunch. Thought it was my chance to see "real" snow at last but no, just rain & cold. happy.gif

Got myself a bionic left eye lens last Nov to match the bionic hip - a GOOD THING as I now can't even read the screen with the right eye (to be done sometime this year). Can't seem to fix the crappy chest though. sad.gif

This month finally left my comfort zone & changed to an emac with OS 10.3.9 (& Classic 9.2.2 for Word & Photoshop) ... AND ADSL2  cool.gif : pushed rather than jumped - my 9 year ISP (which didn't do ADSL) sold out so had to move anyway.
Still in the process of transferring stuff from the old strawberry imac, specially contacts & bookmarks .. another GOOD THING as it's making me discard 9 years accumulation - contacts, URLs, downloads! Amazing how many old email contacts you look at & think "who on earth was that"?!?
BTW, got the combo drive emac for $AUS150.00 - Presbyterian Ladies College (PLC) here is an all mac school & once a year or so has a sale of superseded equipment .. eg $5 for a legit Photoshop 5 CD with reggo number. The graphite imac, indigo clamshell & white laptop came from there as well - bargain bin for OAPs!  laugh.gif

Still showing cats .. my old style siamese Roxanne took Best Companion Cat 2006 & 2007. Jack the Bengal has retired after winning 4 x Best Desexed Other Shorthair, plus a Reserve Best overall desexed. Trying to breed my young Bengal girl but she's not proving very co-operative to date!

That's about it really for me, apart from a bit of garden work.

Better go & feed the mob (9.58pm here), but "I will return!"  toothgrin.gif

Cheers .. BarbZ

2006 / Defeating (or maybe just coping with) Mr. Arthritis
« on: July 19, 2006, 08:43:19 AM »
Hi RHP...

This is just a comment - not very useful to you as it's *very* low tech! wink.gif
I have osteo arthritis in various bodily locations, including hands with fingers that have the top joints heading in odd directions & trouble in the joint at the juction of wrist/base of thumb.
When I got the strawberry imac several years go I found the "hockey puck" a pain to use.

For AUD$10.00 I purchased a set of 4 (various colours to match imacs) contour shells .. they only came in sets of 4 - 3  have never been used!)
The hockey puck sits inside the shell with it's roller protruding at the bottom.
Of course it's still a one-button mouse.
I found it fits my hand exactly, allowing me to just rest the hand on the shell in a very natural position & in, I guess, nearly 7 years of use, often for several hours at a time, I've had absolutely no pain or problems.
In fact the newer imac I've got has a "better" mouse, but I'm pretty sure I'll go on using the older one with the contour shell as it's so comfortable!
Might change the shell to get a better match to the graphite colour though!! toothgrin.gif

Mayo,

The "Mark all forums as read" option is in a drop down menu in Forum Options (top right).

I can't get a drop down menu out of the "Forum Options" - lights up as if it should be clickable, but nothing happens ...... ???  wallbash.gif

Also - should the emoticons be "clickable" as yet?
When I click on one it *looks* as if it's working but nothing happens. wallbash.gif  wallbash.gif

Oh well, at least I got my avatar working!  biggrin.gif  biggrin.gif
(Although it's 83W x 90H at 72 ppi, it loooks smaller than some others??)
Edit: no, I think I'm imagining that! .. Paranoia sets in .. unsure.gif  Paranoid.gif

My favourite is this one. With a different header/banner like TS' own it would look very good. I love the colours! They look yummy!

Got to agree on this one!  cool.gif

2003 / Pets, my Panther (cat) vs. dog issues (adoptions)
« on: October 13, 2003, 11:56:27 AM »
Hi Tonye

Nana's reaction is not only because the newcomer is a dog, she may react in exactly the same way with a new cat.
(Although an older cat can sometimes be quite motherly to a new kitten.)

How long did you have Joey with you?
Realistically, even if they are going to get along eventually, it may take a good deal longer than a weekend - usually some weeks or even months, especially as Nana is an older cat now & has been solo Queen of your home for so long.

It's quite natural for her to dislike a stranger coming into her territory. She's protecting both her home & her relationship with you.
It's also quite natural for her to give the dog a swipe on the nose if he gets too close (personal space!).
Dogs very quickly learn the power of a cat's paw (or claw even!) & will avoid such discipline.

I'd give it at least a couple of weeks to see if the situation settles.
Ideally keep (including sleeping/feeding) the two in different rooms/areas at first, until they get used to the smell of each other, then introduce them for very short supervised periods.
After that a good time for getting together is mealtimes, put both feeding dishes in the same area but not too close.

It could take a good while & she may never really become close friends with any newcomer, but may at least learn to tolerate it.

Good luck!

Hi - haven't posted for a while, been moving house & other things. Now on holiday in Melbourne (Victoria - eastern Australia), getting to know my grand-daughter, now 21 months old.
Spent the last few days on the south coast, near Geelong - nice beaches, but a bit chilly for swimming right now!

Think you might have trouble identifying the owner .. this one's already doing the rounds in Australia, emailed by a friend of mine in Melbourne 2 days ago!
Sure is one pissed off looking cat, but with the temperatures we've been having lately it'd be a lot more comfortable here in Perth, in fact some owners of Persians here regularly have them clipped like this in the summer.

(No, haven't even been lurking! Just had too much on to get on the mac - major back op (triple lumbar laminectomy) late Nov; sister (from Victoria, Aust) & 2 sons (from London & Melbourne) visiting in relays through Dec/Jan, to make sure I followed doctor's orders; sold up & moved house (& cats) 2 weeks ago - only half way through unpacking 120 + boxes, trying to make everything fit into half the space;  organising more cupboards, etc & waiting for the electrician to put a phone line in my "office")
