Tech / Re: GarageBand question
« on: April 05, 2022, 05:42:54 PM »
A head mic would be very cool -- but I'm not sure I'm going to keep up the voiceover business. It's been a lark, but I plan to narrate my own books and probably give it up after that. It's very demanding. In any case, I found a video that shows how to edit the tempo of a specific region, so I'll see if that works. Then I can identify the exact spot that needs the volume reduced, as you pointed out. Thanks again for your thoughts and advice!

Thanks, Jim -- Good advice -- I do have a professional mic and a pop filter -- but there are still occasional 'clicks' which are just from the structure of the word and how I say it. They are in the middle of the word, so I really need to slow down the word and lower the volume over that tiny spot.

Tech / GarageBand question
« on: April 03, 2022, 02:51:13 PM »
Hello, TS'ers! Yes, I know it's been a while ... But I hope you won't hold that against me. In my retirement I have discovered voiceovers and narration of audiobooks. I designed a little sound-proof 'studio' in my walk-in closet and have done a few of these. Not enough to live on, but it is fun! I have learned so much about GarageBand, some from online videos, calling Apple's GB help, and a lot of self-learning. There is one thing that still confounds me, and perhaps someone out there can help:

I need to know how to slow down the narration of a track. It is clear (relatively) how to do this with music tracks, but not with a single, mono, voice narration track. I want to slow down the speed of a single word that has a 'pop' or 'click' in the middle, which is something that happens during normal speech. Can someone tell me how to slow down a single narrated word in GarageBand? That would make my day! Right now all I can do is re-record the whole word or sentence, which often does not flow in the exact same tone as the rest of the sentences around it. Thanks in advance, as always!

Scams abound, and this is just one example. I am sorry enough to offer to send you $10 (ten USD) in the hope that other TS'ers may do the same, more or less. Perhaps we can make you whole again. I can send this to you via Venmo, Apple Pay or Paypal. Just let me know where to send it.

Thanks Jim! I’ll check out that app if Kimmer’s church group can’t identify it.

Yes, my son thought it was might be a Nocturne, but we were trying to  identify exactly which it is.

Thank you, Kimmer, it’s close but not the exact piece. Thank you for looking!

Tech / MacKeeper Application

Just a thank-you for this string, old as it is, that answered my question before I asked it. I've been getting messages about MacKeeper but wouldn't buy or download it until I heard from TS. So thanks again!

Tech / Pages dictation iOS8
« on: October 27, 2014, 09:18:17 AM »
We never received an update "alert" as the tech described -- But after a couple of weeks elapsed, I told my husband to just try dictating in Pages again -- voila! It is fixed.

Glad it's fixed -- will try not to feel annoyed that they never sent an alert!

Have you checked/searched Bing/Google/Apple Support Forums for info on the Pages problem? I think my first choice for Apple S/W problems is still the Support Forms, that's where there will probably be a whole forum just for Pages.

I contacted Apple Support as you suggested, who referred me to App support, who called within a few minutes. They said the dictation issue with Pages was known and they had put a priority on finding a work-around.

Meanwhile they suggested all the work-arounds I had already tried -- closing Pages, turning off and restarting the iPad, and even deleting and re-downloading a fresh copy. Lastly they recommended what we have been doing, dictating into Notes and pasting back into Pages.

Anyway the good news was that they called me back pretty quickly and that they know of the problem and are working on a fix. So I'll just wait for the little update-alert on the App store icon, and keep dictating into Notes for now.

Thanks!

Tech / Pages dictation iOS8

"Pages" app no longer works properly on my husband's iPad. He downloaded it -- I had not downloaded any ios 8 on my devices due to all the problems right away, but he was not aware of that.

He uses Pages for dictating his documents but now the dictating function does not work properly. A new blank document can be dictated on -- once only -- then the dictating function screws up. The "Done" link is gone, as is the voice line graph. A new blank document can be dictated on -- sometimes -- but it can only work once.

Has anyone else had this problem? Pages is the primary app that he uses. Fortunately, he did not install the ios 8 upgrade on his iPhone, so he can dictate into Pages on his iPhone. But any information about when Pages will be fixed?

Thanks folks!

Tech / Pages to page?
« on: August 06, 2014, 05:16:26 PM »
Oh, dear, I'm afraid I must have the new and regressed version of Pages. I paid for the old version, but downloaded the new app on both our iPads and MBP. I guess I can use the thumbnail process, but it is very disappointing.

Thanks to all of you for your help -- And I hope everyone is doing well and having a nice summer. I should try to check in more often!

Be well,
Lorraine

Tech / Pages to page?

Thank you all!

dboh -- I cannot see any window that indicates "page" at the bottom -- I have the page number inserted in the footer, but that doesn't change to anything when I click on it. Can you post a picture of what you are referring to?

Thanks, and I'm doing fine -- a good year!
