I'll be getting a new 15" MacBook Pro, but keeping my old 30" Apple Cinema display. I'm told I need a dual link dvi adapter, but the reviews of the Mac brand product are not so good. Has anyone had luck with that brand or another brand?
Great site. Interesting quandary though...how do I go about figuring out which one I've got if I can't go to "about this mac" since the mac is not working?
The IS guy at work said that the cooling fan failed and that either the motherboard or the processor is fried, but he wasn't sure which. The hard drive was OK and he removed it for me and I loaded all of the info onto the new MacBook Pro the Co. bought for me, BUT I'm still wondering about fixing the old gal and giving her to one of the kids. So, can I fix this thing myself? I know nothing of computers. Or can anyone recommend a good place to get it fixed and give me a guestimate of what it may cost to fix it (if the problem is indeed as described)?
Beyond knowing it's a Titanium, I do not know specifics on the model.
Like i mentioned, he has several guitars. None of them great, but all of them OK. He plays about (I'm guessing here) 4 hours a day. After school He goes straight down to the studio i made for him in the basement and plays until bedtime stopping only to eat and do the occasional homework he didn't finish in study hall. Talk about hyper focus! He's progressing well and loves it!
Thanks Guys. I think I'll go with Guitar Player Mag. Looks sort of edgy which i think he'll like!
The Kid is amazing. He picked up an acoustic we had laying around the house this spring and now he's playing in the praise band as a freshman in high school.
I think "Acoustic Guitar" magazine is a great start, no scantily-clad women, just great acoustic players, some who cross-over to the dark side, some who are cutting edge, all kinds of stuff, great gear reviews (that might cost you some $$$!!!)
Chris, is this a magazine you get yourself, or just something you know about? I'd rather rely on an outsiders opinion than the hype a magazine gives itself if you know what I mean.
and thanks for moving the post to the right place.
My oldest son, now 14, has turned into a guitar playing maniac. I'd like to get him a subscription to a guitar magazine for Christmas, but don't know if there are any worth reading. It can't be too conservative or he won't bother reading it, but it can't be filled with scantily clad women or i won't let him read it
He plays acoustic, electric and bass (once in a while)
I can tell you, being in the industry, that phenylpropanolamine (PPA) was not as bad a drug as all the reports made it sound. The problemm with PPA was that in addition to being used as it was intednded (as a cough/cold remedy) it was found to be an effective diet pill. It reduced the desire to eat. People were eating it like candy so they wouldn't eat food. With the increased levels of intake came the problemss, especially in women. The FDA yanked the product off the shelf to keep us "safe" from ourselves.
Another effective nasal decongestant, pseudoephedrine (PSE), is now being made nigh impossible to get because drug labs have been using it to create methamphetamines. Drug enforcement found itself fighting an uphill battle with the labs and convinced the FDA to put any product containing PSE behind the pharmacy counter to limit access. Effective in slowing down the meth labs, but as a result there's yet another med you can't get (unless you go to a pharmacy).
All of the products you find in the store that include "Drug Facts Labeling"--all the copy on the back of the carton or bottle is in black outline boxes and includes information like "active ingredients"--is FDA approved. It has to be. Your doc isn't the only place to get safe meds. Store brands and Nat'l brands go thorough the same scrutiny by the FDA. Save yourself a few bucks and buy store brands.
Interesting precedent that they'll actually be paying for their clients' credit monitoring services. Generally I don't like behemoth companies because they fell less pressure to act socially responsible, but this is a nice gesture.
Our firewall prevents me from accessing whatever database at iTunes that automatically detects the CD's title and tracks info. Consequently I have to manually enter the CD's info myself. I rarely enter the track names. Just the CD's title.
That same firewall prevents me from going to the iTunes store and purchasing tracks as well
