Interesting! I still need to move my speakers and that will leave me with none on the Mac. Once I install whatever speakers I find I will take another look at this. Looks good!

I need to get some new speakers for my Mac. I don't need a large scale sound production. Just music that is a bit better than a '60's car. Actually, a lot better. I am moving the Vaios speakers and need a replacement for the Mac. Which? I just want to listen to some classical and some folk rock and some Beatles and Stones and some ....................................  Just don't need a ton of sound. Just something that can work. The problem I have with any computer is that I, compared to a lot of people, go after learning with a sledge hammer. I am not to easy on pushing the limits to learn. I screwed up the Mac about 4 times until I learned what does and does not work. FSCK was all I had left and I couldn't even make that work. A couple stupid downloads, me, not the downloads, sealed my fate. The bright side is that I had to force myself to study and learn, both here and elsewhere, how to fix what I screwed up. Now I am nearly up to speed and have confidence that I can work on the Mac just like I have on PC's. Sounds a little warped, doesn't it?

Yet, I handle my cameras and lenses like newborns. My enlargers are old yet look new. My wife still tolerates me. Hey, it's all good! toothgrin.gif

Community / My new retirement business card

We both know that the second is wishful thinking. That leaves the first. Retirement is a loss, I think, if one does not keep busy. Never retire is my philosophy. As long as I can get prescription glasses that allow me to see critical focus through a lens I will never retire.

On the other hand, Take care and use the first one. Top.

My nickles worth given coming inflation.

What about Linux? Who do you trust there as far as downloads. Being new to this and as old as I am now to the world I wonder. Before I bought the Mac I looked everywhere for the tenor of trusted substance as to Linux programs. I was amazed at the community and have, now, been warned about downloads here. It's always an issue of trust and knowledge. My knowledge is fairly weak. That's why I am here. Thanks

OK, I was right, you are a nice guy. I fully intended to use fsck anyhow. I can always come to you again should I screw up! toothgrin.gif toothgrin.gif Thinking.gif Thinking.gif Thinking.gif Thinking.gif Thinking.gif

jawdrop.gif  My Mom never had a Mac. Nor, a Radio Shack 64k. She never had a clue that there would be Basic or Cobal. I am new to Mac and I fear have I been thinking of PC in terms of maintenance. My fault.

OK, that's fine. Can we be friends? I am not comfortable with your responses and the layers of the same sentences. That OK with you? I just need an answer, not a lecture. I say this as you are making me uncomfortable here. tony

Lost Manual says you are a member of Mac, if you see what I mean. I agree. When I had no knowledge it all got screwed up. Now, I run it whenever I see a problem and all comes out well. When I did not run it the Disk Utility was a mess. Wouldn't open. Now it opens each time to repair permissions. I was told here that Leopard can be a problem. Obviously, it can be. For me, I am the problem and Leopard is a second problem. Thank goodness this isn't Microdol X. I wouldn't have a B/W negative otherwise!

When my Mac was completely shot I could not get a good read from fsck. Now that Leopard is reinstalled I wonder how often, and for what cause, should I run fsck. I saw no real problems before everything went to the city park. Then all stopped working at various stages of running. I did not keep notes, I had no idea what I was seeing. No "root#" in fsck. That is fixed. What do I need to understand to keep a Mac up and running? What do I need to look for as a problem starts? I always ask easy questions. Devilish2.gif

I kind of enjoy the problems? ! It allows me to solve them. I am just not familiar enough with causation with the Intel Mac to figure out what is the problem and its cause. I was told, somewhere else, that it was my HDD. I gave that a grain of salt. I have been through HDD failures. I knew it was the OS and my screw ups. Thanks folks. Tony

Aren't flowers fun to shoot? These are nice. I like the depth of field. The first 3 have the background nicely out of focus. I have a one of these in my backyard. I never thought to shoot them. thanks for your take on these. Your closer subjects are nicely in focus. Great job! Keep in up. What camera? It always helps to know what one uses to see what records a photo. Good job. There is nothing better than seeing what others see in my line of work. Tony

I posted a photo of my 3 guitars here. The unknown is that I started playing drums in 1958. Just a Ludwig snare. I stopped playing drums in the early '90's when our CW band broke up. That was a 16 year run. If you know bands that is a miracle to have a band of any kind run that long. I played percussion in high school in the orchestra. Swan Lake? Yep.

I took up guitar as a junior in high school. A Kenora gut string, from Japan, I suppose. I went in the Navy and did 2 tours of Vietnam between '68 and '72. I took a Gibson Dove with me. The Gulf of Tonkin was a great place to play "The Boxer" and "Kathys Song". Remembrances of our country and freedom from  long way away.

I bring this up as I tuned into Comcasts country channel and heard almost a songlist of all the different songs I played drums in for the band. Sonors. Black and chrome. Zildjian cymbals and the Martin D-28 which I learned songs on to bring into the bands list. "Bad Bad Leroy Brown and I Love a Rainy Night. Just was struck by hearing these for the first time in a long while. Thought I would say this here. all my children were born while I was in this band. Blue Grass-Country Western. A treat to hear some of this again. Doc Watson...as a parting thought.

I have dinner to make. Thanks for listening. Tony
