How very nice it is to be remembered. And indeed most gracious of you to do so. Always, I am humbled at such kindness.

While I don't post much these days, I do peek in from time to time, and never are you far from my thoughts.

You have made TS one of the preeminent Apple sites,brought joy to us all, and extinguished angst for so many. Truly, bravo to you all. And to your great credit, you have been a friend, a very fine friend. And that is why your birthday wishes are meaningful and appreciated!

FWIW: PandaLabs is reporting-

"Some cybercriminals created a Facebook page called "R.I.P. Steve Jobs", and innocent people have been joining by the thousands. In just a few hours it had more than 90,000 fans. Criminals published a link using the popular shortener service bit.ly, where they said that Apple will be giving away 50 iPads.
  Of course all the stuff is a scam, and once you click to that URL (which ended with "restinpeace-steve-jobs") you were redirected to a place where you are offered a number of gifts, such as iPads, Sony Bravia TVs. For that they ask for your information, such as Full Name, Address, Phone Number, e-mail address, etc.
  Facebook has closed the page and bit.ly has done the same with their link. There are some really interesting statistics that I'd like to show you. Out of those > 90,000 fans, 25,669 clicked in the link provided by the criminals!"

Perhaps others know additional detail re this report. I am not a FaceBook subscriber and generally question the veracity every blog, ergo the FWIW caveat. However, I do believe there are some clever & devious cretins running loose. Thus a bit of caution when surfing is most prudent. (IMNHO).

Just a short Quicken caution:

Do not delete the Quicken application until after you have successfully exported the data files to the replacement application, as the export process itself requires Rosetta.

Tech / is it OK to run an iMac off a generator?

I think much depends on how stable the generator current is. In any event, I would definately insert a UPS system between the generator and the computer and thus groom the power and dampen voltage spikes and the like. Then fridge & freezer compressors cycling on & off may well cause unwanted fluctuations.

No doubt, others will have additional comments, some of whom may have actually used a (home) generator to power a computer (I have not).

I have seen almost no publicity about this, so...

If you've used the Snow Leopard Combo, you may need/want to download and (re)install the Safari v5.1 standalone.

If it's faster than Safari, I dunno. But it is fast, much faster that 5.x (IMNHO). I get a score of 97 on the Acid3 Test. If it matters, Safari gets 100.

Tech / Is anyone running Lion from the download at Apple?

No major problems here, well, other than my learning curve, e.g., I'm finding Lion a bit steep. Smilar, sorta, to the migration from Classic to OS X. Doing your homework prior to installing Lion cannot be over emphasized (IMNHO).

FWIW, If one has favorite PPC applications, such as Quicken (and others), I strongly recommend keeping a 10.6.x backup (or two). Should you later wish to transfer/import your Quicken data, the export cannot be consummated if the Quicken app cannot be opened (because of no Rosetta).

Lion, best when taken with a soft Burgundy.

I think the 30 free trial of Bear Extender is worth a go, though I am uncertain re shipping machinations across then pond. Perhaps an email to the developer is the ticket.

FWIW, I found the Developer Interview worthwhile.
