Tech / Re: reboot occasionally
« on: April 26, 2026, 02:12:11 AM »
Oh goodness, I’m still stuck on those little openings on the back of my new computeer. How do I set up a reboot? and I have to relearn about getting the thingies so I can use my “hefty size” pin drive and put some artsy-fartsy stuff on my new iMac from my old iMac. My “excuse" is that I had to go to the ER again recently—gosh that takes a lot out of me … as always, prayers appreciated if you feel confortable doing that.

Thank you, Jim and Jon!!!  I hope to get to it within a week—anytime I have a health issue, it seems to set me back for a bit!

Thanks, Jim!!!

I had a health curveball for a bit but thankfully am back to "normal" and back online (what is normal??)

I have a couple more questions--I'm sure the beginning of many!
If I download Brave or DuckDuckGo as backup browsers (I'm not sure why except it makes me feel good to have more browsers), will they automatically go into my dock?

Do I have an icon for my hard drive?

How do my keyboard and wireless mouse get charged if they don't get plugged into the back of my my computer?  I certainly have a learning curve!!!

Thanks!

Sooz

Ohhhh y’all know how much I love them there pictures!! It’s like you really know me!!! Thank you!! :notworthy:

Good suggestion about getting some kind of “box” to be the Keeper of the Cables etc.  I’m hoping a plastic shoebox will do just fine—or The Dollar Tree always has containers, with or without a lid.  I ordered some plastic ties so I don’t have them loose like snakes in the box.

Hi, everyone and happy Saturday!

I wanted to download something from a pin drive onto my desktop but my pin drive won't fit into the itty bitty teeny tiny port on the back of my new iMac.  What kind of adapter do I need?  I only have two ports--are they the "lightning" ports or regular ones? ...not that I know the difference except lightning is fast, I guess!

Also, I have a wireless mouse.  The keyboard has a connector cord that can connect to the mouse for charging, I guess? BUT how does it charge if nothing is plugged in to any kind of an electrical outlet or to the back of the computer? Is this magic??  :cheer:

Thanks and smiles!

Thanks for the wonderful welcome back, Jim, Kris and Jon (loved the quip!)!  I think I have too much computer for my needs though.  It's like why do I need an industrial mixer for baking  :cookies:when I really only need one of those hand-held electric mixers...  :thanx:

I thought it came with Pages, but Pages is nowhere to be found so I''ll have to go to the App Store and download it I guess.  I understand it's free.

I'm so used to MSWord--is Word outdated or not free?

Jim, weren't you telling me something about Pages in a past post?

At least I know what I have to do for Time Machine thanks to you-all and past baby-step by baby-step help!

So glad TS is still here!

Tech / Hello! Hi! Howdy! Hello!!
« on: March 15, 2026, 06:06:35 PM »
Hi everyone!  I'm back with a new computer!  I still have my old faithful one but am trying to learn this new one...it's an iMac desktop computer, Apple M4, 24 inch monitor, 16 GB, running Tahoe 26.2, with a hard drive of 245.11 GB.  FANCY!!!   Do you think I know what all that means? Of course not!  Oh, and the key board that came with this iMac is small to me!  Ohhhhhhhh and I have a Magic Wireless Mouse!!!! That's different!

I can actually finally access this site  :yahoo:

But wait... I will still need 'splaining like I'm a 2 year old from another planet or something like that because I know I'll be stumped many times as I get used to this one.

I just wanted to stop in and say HI!  Has anything much changed?  People are still going strong and healthy?  My health concerns seem to have stabilized but that could change at a moment's notice--a peril of aging--but I'm still so glad to be here!
Smiles,
Soon

Tech / Now what? Is it my old iMac?
« on: August 25, 2024, 06:26:14 PM »
I can't even find you, even when I type in techsurvivors.net using Firefox or even Opera! I had success using Safari on my (very old!) cell phone, and did a copy of the web addy to get to here on my (sooo old I guess) computer.

Is my computer so very old?   :tears:
Am *I* so very old!? :dntknw:   Ok, no answering that.  Apparently I cannot even Preview!

Just in case I totally lose you, and you want to be pen pals with someone who will continue to pick your brain (and be glad to hear from you!), here's an email that I check every few days (remove the spaces of course):

I took a screenshot of my HD, I guess I don't need a lot of gigabytes in addition to what actually comes with the computer???

Oh, and if you're reading this, what the heck?????!!!!  I don't EVER EVER choose to save my passwords, especially for my Credit Union... somehow, my iMac saved the password for me when I tried logging in to "Fidelity" (where I have a CD that is maturing soon).  Some screen popped up and showed my password for my Credit Union!  I changed it and then, for good measure, deleted it. How did this happen?
Thanks, and smiles,
Sooz

Thanks, Jon, much appreciated! I have a new medical issue going on as of yesterday so my purchase of a new computer is likely to be delayed. :no2:

Thanks for the updated info, Jim.   I'm glad your endeavor worked out well with your Memory Book, and thanks for the laugh about your activities that keep you busy when your wife uses Word.

A Mac mini with as big a screen as I can get ?? and I'm so unfamiliar with that (I don't think you're very surprised at that because you know me and how I am with technology!)  :laughhard:

I have my homework cut out for me, following all the links and reading and such.

Thanks again all of you! If you can spare a good thought or prayer for me, it would be much appreciated. :)
Smiles,
Sooz
