Thank you for your handshakes.  Yes indeed the Classic 9's can still run on the net pretty good with a mosilla adapted browser especially made for pre-10X boxes.  Check out Classilla.org for more info and free downloads to Classilla 9.3 browsers.

Also - if anyone has need for AppleWorks 6.2.9 for OSX 10.3.9 I have one of the last sources of it on disc for $19.95 + ship it's: http://www.welovemacs.com/6913657a.html.  Apple list only the bridges to AW and not the 6.0 master upgrade from AW 5.4.  My initial OSX software did not include this software which - if you can find it goes for about $90 USD.  Been having to work with "Text-edit" program which almost drove me crazy.

Site admin. might want to post this on the tech side of this site as well.

Still runnibg my old 6115-maxed out PM and added a circa 2005 imac bumped it up to an 80gb HD w/1GB Ram running on a max 400mhz of 10.3.9  Everything still works between the Classic (Clissilla web browser) and 10.3.9 Netscape/Firefox - thanls to file share - scanners and old files work just fine - although it has taken a lot of time because I am not in the workplace to learn from others - most intense was some serious script upgrading and hunting for what all was lacking on the original imac.  Good experience overall.

I'll keep a closer watch on older OSX - Q&A's on the tech side.  Don't wan't seem too far behind everyone.  My son is on a new iMac with Lion but I enjoy fighting with Panther and my old C;assic 9.2

Tech / Will OS 9 run on an Intel partion?

My nephew just bought a new Macbook which he recently updated to system 10.6.6.  He has been a casual Mac user since he was little due to my influence on my brother, which is his dad.  Started out on a Performa which he still has and occasionally starts up for giggles.

He asked me if it was possible to run system 9.1 on a separate partition.  Is that possible on an Intel Mac?

Still on m old G3.

High Speed Internet  Time Warner Road Runner has made my Netscape 7.0 obsolete.

That doesn't make sense. Netscape 7 will work no matter how you are connected to the Internet; the browser you use has nothing to do with the kind of network connection you have.

I think the rest of us overlooked the, um, logic, and focused on the problem. Yes, the real reason the browser is not performing has to do with the content of web pages. It gets more "advanced" as new "bells and whistles" are added. That's what leaves a browser's capabilities in the dust bin.

Hey Guys and Gals - I can't thank you enough for all of your suggestions -  I'll check out each and every one.  For the moment, I'm spending most of my days on my roof.  ((Priority #1 before the snows come)).

Thank God for TS Founders and Concept - - - It really has helped me on so many instances.

I don't see much feedback from Kelly - - - Is he OK??

WOW

Thanks.  TS has always been an in-depth site for my needs.  I'll check into everyting mentioned.  Not too nuts about hooking up with the "icab outfit" - it's based in Germany ((not that I'm predjudiced - my wife is from Germany and we go there frequently).  It's just that everytime I send e-mails or check out "".de"" sites - - - I get scooped up into all kinds of unwanted porno junk from Europe - - - got so bad I had to change my e-address.

Aloha AL - God, if not for you, I never would have been a member - - - still have your ram sticks (somewhere) Good to hear from you.  Hope all is well.  I haven't visited the site in a few years.

Here's how it is with our local TimeWarner Cable TV - HS Internet and -digital phone service - - - - - - It's ID'd as an ""All-In-One" package.  Really and truly, it's the best thing we have.  Could not live without the service.  Only problem is t he """AOL""" factor.  When they say it's time for Mac'ers with 9.1  to go - we have little choice.  I'm thinking that even thou I select a browser of my choice - It seems to be governed by AOL through my TW cable service.

Am I right in this assumption???  If so - I better start shopping or consider going back to dial-up.

Also, I have dedicated/selected Netscape as my "default" everything works OK on incoming via NS7.0 but if I select NS to a selected wewbsite, I get bumped out with all kinds of "unexpectedly quit' warnings.

I see the digital writings on the wall - - - just trying to set a record with an old 6115 PM from 1994.

I'll check out "icab 3.x.x" - thank you Bit 207.

Nav 9 will not download to my OS 9+.  Must have 10X to do so Flash 296. But thanks for the assistance.

I'm doubtful that anything exists these days.

Still on m old G3.

High Speed Internet  Time Warner Road Runner has made my Netscape 7.0 obsolete.  I am limping along on OS 9.1  and IE 5.0 - - - life was better with Netscape 7.0 but my cable provider won't even boot me up in Netscape - - - IE 5.0 still works but lacks major firewalls - and Microsoft has orphaned 9.1 and 9.2 as well. Cant go beyond 9.2 on this box

Does anyone know of any work arounds for 'pre' 10X?  (Mozilla Firefox is not an option for my OS (9+)

Thanks in advance.

2006 / Could be the end of the road for me and OSv9.1
« on: December 17, 2006, 05:55:23 PM »
I've always been behind the curve on this site trying to keep up  - - - always checked out problems of others - and subsequent solutions to them - - - but I'm still still stuck in a grove with OS9.1 and my old box of goodies that worked until about 2- months ago.

I've been on broad-band for about a year now and still running on OSv9.1 - everything was fine.  Suddenly, everything fell apart apart about amonth ago.
I suspected a bum cable modem at first - but this master hard drive works fine - just limited as to what I can do.

I've been operating on my master hard drive ever since the crash - trying to figure out what happened (beyind obsolesence) - my system hard drive will not boot in the startup mode.  Tried the  Apple>option>P>R to reset parameter ram - does not woprk . . .anyone have any idea how I can regain my running hard dirve as a start-up disk?  I tried replacing my Start-up-disk file and preference file to no avail.

I have reformated my HD and selected the long-count of O's before I laid down all new programs - my Utilities Files claim that my HD checks out OK.  So how do I make it start-up again???

Thanks in advance,

Mike

Please don't anyone suggest that Santa Claus gets me out of this with a new one.

Me, (neokm) Again,

FYI, my "System Profiler" does not recognize a CD in the "Drives and Devices"

I've also tried other CD's thinking that I might have a bum CD and nothing pops up on my DT.

All term. connections are positive and the mechanics of the CD seem to function OK i.e.    tray in-out, and the normal audio-girgitation you hear when it's about to pop-up on the DT

Hitting the sack - will check in EST/Daylight
Thanks for looking

All's well - so I thought.  Have not used my CD reader since before my recent crash in Aug.  '06

Went to select my 'Microtek X6EL Scan options in my Apple Menu and it came up 'blank'  So, I tried to reload in my MicroTek CD software and no acknowledgement appeared on my DeskTop  - - - Thinking that I had a faulty device, I replaced the CD with another device from my 'bone-yard' along with an alternate, 4-wire audio link - NOTHING.

Any thoughts to help me keep this old tub of digits and widgits alive will be appreciated.

2003 / Good Source for Parts
« on: November 09, 2003, 07:41:48 PM »
Hi - haven't been on board lately (how about 6 months+), Went to Europe with the wife  this summer (class reunion in Germany), anyhow, winter is setting in very fast and  I'll be seen and heard more now that I'm inside.

I was thinking that if anyone has given up searching for parts and components for the 'older mac's' (especially schools), check out this site.  It requires a 'pre-registration' to view what they have - (no big deal - kind of like ebay). Check it out  - - - I found a power supply for an old LS printer.

Good to be back.

I have not been on (the) board lately - found a great site for resurrecting  printers  Much like TS - worldwide chat help. worked for me - I saved an old LaserWriter LS and a 2500 - check it out if you have printer problems. http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/

Going to fly  to Germany via Zurich to attend My wife's class reunion - three day trip into wine country - 'oh my', they know how to do it + Oktoberfest all in one.

Have not been on the board for a few weeks - - - this caught my attention - - -

I have observed that when it comes to 'discarding' -  'throwing out' -'recycling' - etc. etc. it really comes down to sentiment/market value/ and-or, identifying an anxious recipient.

I just gave my 13" Performa-PLUS color monitor (circa 1992), away to an acquaintance to my son who can't believe what life is in color - (sort of like the old B/W TV vs. Color TV). Hey if it makes him happy - - -

One time in the middle of the Adirondack forest  in New York State, I strategically placed a hand-me-down monitor on the roadside with an even bigger sign "FREE" - it was gone in twenty minutes.

FWIW.
Mike
