Tech / Need to convert an e-book from exe to PDF
« on: April 07, 2018, 11:54:41 AM »QUOTE(jcarter @ Apr 9 2012, 07:19 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I cannot see what is in it, If I could take screenshots, I certainly would, but its gibberish galore.
I have a Dell, what would happen if I gmailed the exe file over to it, would something there be able to read it?
A classmate has offered to translate it into a PDF for me, I wonder what he would have that would enable him to do that?
Thank you for any help that I can get this doggone book readable! I would willingly send her a check for the $50 if I could use it.

Hi,
I came here hoping to find out how to extract an .exe ebook. It opens, I can see the contents (except some pages are acting weird - it's a 2005 version and struggles to open in Windows 10.) but it won't let me copy. I tried the 'copy' option - no go. I tried CTRL+C and still no go. However, right clicking does let me View the Source Code - it's an HTML document, right?
And lo and behold, there's the html for each page opened in Notepad. I saved it as html and was able to open the page in my browser. From there, I can simply select, copy the screen and save it in Word or Notepad without all the html code. Voila! AND keep all the graphic layout for a pdf. Perfect!
I was a tad ticked that I'd have to go through each page and retype them, or print and scan (which I still could do. I just wouldn't be able to edit it without paying Adobe) Then I thought I'd have to delete all the html code manually until it dawned on me I can simply open in a browser, copy and paste back. It's so simple.
A bit of a challenge for you, however, if you have 600 pages. But maybe a better alternative to having someone transcribe it all.
Once you get it into a fresh document, you can turn it into a pdf.
Hope this works for you, too.
As far as .exe files go, for awhile way back when, it was a popular way to create ebooks that people couldn't "steal", but it's been awhile since I've seen this format. People now just opt for pdf which makes way more sense. Who wants to buy something that you can't even print?
