Tech / What Email App do you use on your ISP?
« on: November 10, 2018, 03:29:07 PM »
Just wondering what you power mac users use for an email app and your ISP?

Setting up a new user would require a new email address, right? Don't really want to do that as too many contacts have my current address. And yes, I've corrected the port on several occasions.

Thank for your input,

D

I used to use Apple Mail easily with Comcast. For the last 18 +or - months I have had nothing but trouble getting and sending email. I have worked with Apple until it was determined that Apple could find nothing wrong with the way in which Mail handled email. I went back to Comcast to try what Apple suggested to help resolve this problem. I had a real problem finding someone at Comcast who knew what Apple had suggested to fix the problem. I finally found an "agent" who thought he knew what apple and I were talking about. We worked together and got Mail working on our two iPhones, an iPad and a MacBook Pro.

Since that time, I have had to call Comcast at least 12-15 times to reconnect all my devices. At one point I gave up and tried to use the Comcast/Xfinity email app for about 2 months. I got so frustrated using their app I tried to get Apple Mail working again. Didn't work! Same problem. Right now I can get email on Apple Mail only on my MacBook Pro, but I can't send email. Nothing on the iPhones or iPad.

Three hours ago I was told that an "agent" would return my call. Familiar technique to dump a call they don't want to deal with. So tired of dealing with them. Is there a better email service out there that can give me 75 bps+ in Northern Indiana?

Has anyone had better experiences?

Is there a solution?

Maybe you should try setting your desired Search Engine in Safari->Prefs->Search->"Search engine:" drop-down menu. smile.gif thumbup.gif

I did that.No change.

Every time I try to look up something by typing in the URL space in Safari the results are displayed in Yahoo instead of Google. I went into Google prefs and indicated the search engine I wanted to use was Google. Didn't change a thing.

How do I get back to having Google be my main search engine?

Why do you need to delete the whole drive? If the current OS is working without problems, just leave it installed. It's probably not the one that came installed on the machine, anyway. You can certainly erase any apps and their data that you don't want to remain on the drive. Mostly I'd just delete any financial stuff and probably emails, contacts, and passwords. You can also delete that stuff that might be on an internal Time Machine drive. Don't make things harder than it needs to be. wink.gif

One other thing you might want to do is delete email accounts (and email) and reauthorize the computer in iTunes.

Thanks, I may try that.

Which OS do you need? Some may still be available from Apple or from eBay.

Just the one that will allow me to reinstall a workable OS. I really don't know which OS that is.

Does anyone have the system discs for a Late 2009 MacBook? I want to give this computer to my son, but I need to give it to him in completely blank condition. I need to wipe the hard drive and reinstall the system and accompanying applications. Unfortunately, I do not have the original discs wallbash.gif

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Yes, I unchecked the two finger box. It has been unchecked for some time as it was one of the first things I did to try to fix this problem.

My screen looks like your first pic. All the boxes are checked the same way as yours now. The window is acting the same way.

Dear jchuzi,

I tried your suggestions without success. Both problems occurred as I was working on those suggestions. I tried unchecking or checking boxes to make the problem happen, but nothing changed.

Any other ideas?

I can't find a previous posting on this issue, however that doesn't mean that it wasn't there. I just couldn't find it.

When scrolling in Mavericks on my MacBook Pro the screen will enlarge and I have to stop scrolling and pinch the window back to proper size. Also, at times, the window will shrink and there will be however many windows I have open in miniature and I have to click on the appropriate window to get it back to it's original size. I kept thinking that Apple would come out with an update, but as yet, nothing. This is happeningon my wife's MacBook as well.

What's the solution?

Thanks
