2003 / What was that "@" icon for?

No typo.  I said "poofing".  You know if you drag the icons off the dock they disappear in a little puff of smoke and make a sound that sounds like "poof".

It's really quite amusing (if you are *really* bored), but not when your 22 month old removes every single one, while laughing hysterically at the sound.

Ok... if there is no such thing as a stupid question I'm going to go ahead and ask this one.

What does the "@ on a spring" icon represent? This is the one that is beside/above the trash can icon in OS X.  What is it, and more importantly do I need it??

My 22 month old was having a grand time "poofing" the icons off my dock this morning    .  I managed to restore all of them except the "@".  I can't find the original on my computer anywhere, nor can I figure out what it was.  All the websites I've found show a lovely picture of it but don't say what it is, same goes for the books I have.

Normally I wouldn't worry about it, but I'm one of those pack-rat types and now I fear I might need it one day and not be able to use it!    I doubt that will happen since I haven't used it once since I got this computer... but you never know!

Now back to the more intelligent questions!!

2003 / Looking for a printer that plays well with OS X
« on: March 01, 2003, 06:12:00 PM »
Hi, and thanks for the replies so far   .

I have 2 old printers, an Epson Stylus 600 and a Personal LaserWriter, but neither one is USB.  I want to get something new to go with the new eMac. I graduated from a 233MHz Wallstreet Powerbook and a 6500/250, so nothing I own is USB compatible.

I wanted to make sure whatever I get is OS X compatible.  I've had plenty of experience with products that are supposed to be Mac compatible but turn out to be anything but. I thought I'd try to save myself the headache this time.

Thanks bunches!

I finally found this forum!!! Yeah!!

I'm hoping someone can recommend a printer that plays well with OS X... in other words, one that doesn't leave me banging my head on the desk in frustration because I can't get it to print.   .

I'm using a 700MHz eMac with OS 10.2.4.  I've read that the HP printers don't work especially well with OS X, so I think I'll skip those.

I'm looking for something with a digital card reader in the $250-$300 price range. Any help will be most appreciated!!

I'm so glad I found you guys
