I've been browsing in Amazon for some new iBooks G4 to check on prices. What astonished me the most were some reviews where people complaint about the temperature of the machine when they worked with it on the lap (2 reviews for that), and about some guy telling that for some apps, his iBook was extremely slow...

I want to know your opinion on this, because I have one of this toys in sight (the 12" iBook G4)

Thanks for your time and help

2003 / I'm thinking about buying a Digital Camera....

QUOTE(kbeartx @ Nov 2 2003, 9:31 PM)
Never owned or used one B4, so ease-of-use is a corn-sideration, as is best quality for the least cost (AKA 'most bang for the buck').

I'll be 'interfacing' it w/ my iMac DV G3 450 (USB & Firewire), which I just decided to upgrade to Jaguar, since Jag's been working so well for me on my G3 DT 'Workhorse' for several muntz now.

Any and all information, input, and opinions are welcome.

TIA,

 Consider this:

Olympus C-4000Z

I have one, and i'm very pleased with this toy. Maybe the best 4MP camera under $500 and now under $400. You can read the reviews here:

http://www.imaging-resource.com/
http://www.steves-digicams.com/
http://www.megapixel.net/html/issueindex.php?lang=en

and check the prices here:

http://www.pricegrabber.com/search_getprod...4f33809891ff99f

NewEgg is a very good store (based on the consumer reviews -$358.00-)

I hope this can be usefull for you

2003 / What is "Zap the PRAM"...

Which "problem"? Which OS?

Zapping, in essence restores settings in Control Panels to those established "at the factory", those you had when you installed the OS right out of the box. Then, you open each major CP and reset it to your liking, Date and Time, and Apple Menu Options, for example.

I really applies to OSes < X.

It can be helpful "therapy", plus it's easy via TechTool Lite (free utility from MicroMat) when problems accumulate and trashing preferences for some likely "usual suspects" fails to "cure" what ails the Mac.

I'm sorry, but I thought I had my signature on.

iMac 350/System 9.2.2 in Spanish/320MB of RAM

2003 / What is "Zap the PRAM"...
« on: September 30, 2003, 12:46:17 PM »
After several atempts to fix a problem in my iMac, because it refused, at the very end of the starting process, to finish it (frozzes). And with extensions off... the same thing.
I used Norton to check, and everything was "fine", Optimized the disk (Norton) and replaced the directory with DiskWarrior... nothing. Then I remembered about "Zap the PRAM" that I saw here years ago (with TechTool), and in an instant everything worked again... but I really don't know why.

If anyone can give me some light, I'll be very glad. And if this could be the consecuence of  another problem.

Thanks again for your help and time

There's a pretty favorable review in the October 2003 issue of MacWorld.

But before spending that kind of $$, I would consider Fred Miranda's Stair Interpolation Action:

http://www.fredmiranda.com/shopping/catalo...php?product=108

I have always had great results with Miranda's actions & they are very reasonably priced.

Thanks to all of you for your time. I'll consider the demo and the second program before spend good money.

I'm thinking in buying this because of the propanganda in the Extensis web site in order to make bigger prints (11 X 14, and if it is possible, of course) of some photos of a 2MP camera... but I'm really not sure of the wonders of this product

Does anyone?

2003 / Something to arrange memory blocks?

Is there a program that helps to put order in your memory?
sometimes is annoying to know that you have enough memmory, but the app ask you for it, because of the blocks...

2003 / In need of advice concerning the F keys...
« on: June 07, 2003, 08:53:39 AM »
Sorry to bother again, but, since I formated the Hard Drive, some odd things had happened, nothing (I hope) to call for help... but I come here because this is something that I can't fix.
THe F keys suddently stop half of their work, because the first keys I configurated worked fine (F1, F2, F3, F,5), but when I pressed another in order to set it, nothing happened... I trashed the preferences, and seems that it fixed the problem, but... in the middle of the task, a bomb with an error 10 appears, then I restarted, tryed again, another error 10, restarted, and things are in the begining... the configurated keys function well, but not the option of setting the other ones....

Thanks again for your time and your help

2003 / What is "overcharging" a NiMH battery?
« on: June 05, 2003, 11:03:36 AM »
QUOTE(kelly @ Jun 5 2003, 2:40 PM)

 Thanks a lot kelly

My concern is because I bought 2 sets of Powerex 2200... and I really can't believe how long they last. I have one set in my new Olympus C-400Z and after 31/2 128MB cards with the LCD ON all the time, downloading all 3 cards with the power of the camera, using tha flash maybe half to the shots and using a lot of the noise reduction... they are still runnig...
I bought them because my 2 sets of 1800 NiMH (one Powerex, the other Nexel) just gave me enough power for about one card and a bit more (sometimes) with the LCD ON and downloading from the camera tha 128MB card...
I supposed that (using a Kindergarden logic) that the new ones will gave me about 20-25% more power... but no 300%...
I'm thrill, and I hope this is for real, and my original question were because of my desbelief, and heared that the batteries could be "overcharged" I thought (?) that the charger could overload the batteries, givind them more power (I don't see how... but), and damagin them on short terms...

I know that he best thing to do is to see what happens with the other set and with the one is in after they have been recharged, but I'm really impressed...

Thanks for hearing me again

I saw in Thomas Distribiuting customer reviews that a man both a new 204F charger and it overcharge his batteries... and he has to return the gadget...
I guess it doesn't give more power to the batteries, so, if you can explain me what happent to this man, because I have one of those chargers

2003 / Something awful happened...
« on: June 04, 2003, 05:37:05 PM »
QUOTE(tacit @ Jun 4 2003, 10:15 PM)
Most likely, your system file was damaged during your crash. (In general, if you crash or see an error message, always read every single word. Want to know a secret? That's the #1 difference between most cmputer "experts" and computer "novices." Experts read what's on the screen; novices don't.)

The damage was repaired when you reinstalled the system.

You might want to consider something else: If you only have 320MB of RAM, setting virtual memory to 500 MB is too much; it may seriously affect your computer's performance. RAM is cheap; buy more RAM.

 tacit:

You are right, but never the less, I did that to test the performance of the machine, and of course... the last. I really can't complaint with 320MB, I can run Entourage, two browsers, Photoshop and maybe another program... and I saw now that with the virtual memory on (321MB) the Mac OS runs with less memory...

Thanks a lot again

Thought that link covered either OS AL.?.

OH NO MR.BILL smile.gif

Thank you all for your opinions on the matter (I didn't get the full idea of about half of the terms).
My concern is that (at least for me) this came from nowhere. It was from all the trash acumulated during years of use, causing a conflict?...

Thank you all a lot

Hi Jorge,

Go to your Startup Disk control panel and make sure you have selected a start up drive.  That should take care of the question mark.

 Al:

You were right. I highlighted specifically the folder (system folder) for the starup... and the question mark is gone

Thank you very much for your concern

Now if it's not too much to ask. Do you know what kind of error is the 102 error?... I don't have the slightest idea what heppened to my computer

Thanks again
