Tech / PS Elements 6 and OSX 10.5.6?
« on: March 05, 2010, 12:52:19 PM »
I upgraded to Leopard a couple of months ago, and naturally, PS7 doesn't work, so I've been looking at Elements, and before I hit eBay for Elements 6, since Elements 8 doesn't work with my OS, I just wanted to check with you guys and make sure 6 does.  Confirmation, please?  And Thanks!

2009 / Just noticed something different . . .
« on: November 20, 2009, 03:27:22 PM »
On the other computers that I've had (G3, G4 w/2 hard drives), when I dragged something from 1 partition (or HD) to another, it actually made a copy of the old app or data to the new one.  With the G5 Quad, which has OSX 10.4.11 on one HD, and Leopard 10.5.8 on the other, when I dragged an app or a jpg from the first hard drive to the second, apparently it created an alias! When did they start doing that?  And, if I actually want to carry something over, rather than an alias, how do I accomplish it?  Sheesh. . . Just when I thought I had everything figured out Thinking.gif As usual,  thanx.gif in advance!

2009 / Safari hassle. ..
« on: November 19, 2009, 02:12:44 PM »
2 hard drives, 1 w/10.4.11 & the other with 10.5.8 and both of them often give me this message when I try to go to my homepage:

"Safari can’t open the page.
Safari can’t open the page “”. The error is: “bad server response” (NSURLErrorDomain:-1011) Please choose Safari > Report Bugs to Apple, note the error number, and describe what you did before you saw this message."

I hit the reload button, and the page comes up! wallbash.gif I've tried deleting the plist, to no avail. . . Any suggestions?

Also, in mail, in the preferences, I have the "Composing: Message Format:" as Rich Text, and yet, about half the time, when I go to italicize a text, the box pops up and asks me if I want to convert to rich text.  What's up with that?  And, it also happens on both platforms!

As usual, thanks in advance!

Just finished a month long "trip" through the badlands with Stephen Kings "Dark Tower" series; 7 books that are truly wonderful, and not his usual fare.  Thought you might want to add them to your reading list.  The only problem with reading a great story by a (sometimes!) great writer, is. . . What do you start reading next?  I can not be a book by an "average" writer, as I will just not be able to deal with it.  I've had a couple of people suggest, "The Art of Racing In The Rain". . . I guess it's a "dog" book, written from the dog's point of view, and I just got a pickup notice from the library, so. .. Hesitantly, I'm gonna give it a try!

2008 / What happened to my iTunes "burn" capability?
« on: October 27, 2008, 02:10:24 PM »
Hey guys, I did a "search" for this problem, but can't find an answer.  I went to burn a songlist from iTunes, today, and lo and behold, it won't let me burn it.  Doesn't matter which songlist I click on, the burn icon wont show up in the right hand corner.  Haven't had any problems with it before, and I just hauled the song list over to Toast 8, and it burned it OK, but iTunes wont read the titles off the disk.  I haven't changed anything, except updating to 10.4.11and this may be the first time I've tried to burn within iTunes since then. I did a permisssions repair and ran Diskwarrior, and the same thing happens. Any ideas?  As usual, thanks in advance!

A few years ago, one of you guys (I think) posted a link to a site that had "award winning" cliche literature ("It was a dark and stormy night. . ."), and I heard it mentioned again last week, but was in the car, and didn't have a way to write it down.  Do you still have a link to that site?

2008 / HD recommendation?
« on: February 03, 2008, 02:07:30 PM »
Hey guys, back in August, I bought a 400 gig SATA hard drive from Western Digital, that it took me about a week to figure out (with some research @ WD, well hidden, I might add) was NOT compatible with Macs, for some reason.  Had no problem returning it to Newegg, but it made me gun shy as far as ordering something else. I'm ready to try it again, but figured that I'd ask you guys for a recommendation. I need an internal, and it's for the Quad 2.5 Mac.  Thanks in advance!

Are you going to be one of the "average" (according to AP) people who are going to consume 4,500 calories today?   jawdrop.gif Boggles my mind! I just finished my exercises so I can indulge in about half of that without having to diet for a couple of weeks, afterwards!  Have a great one, and don't forget the Alka Seltzer or Pepto. . .

Just finished reading a book of short stories (NOT my usual fare) compiled by James Patterson, and it had a few of my favorite authors, but added a whole bunch to my list of "must check out"s!

Ted Bell
Steve Berry
Grant Blackwood
Lee Child
David Dun
Heather Graham
James Grippando
Denise Hamilton
Raelynn Hillhouse
Gregg Hurwitz
Alex Kava
J. A. Konrath
Robert Liparulo
David Linn
Eric Van Lustbader
Dennis Lynds
Gayle Lynds
Chris Mooney
David Morrell
Katherine Neville
Michael Palmer
Douglas Preston
Christopher Reich
James Rollins
M.J. Rose
James Siegel
Brad Thorn
M. Diane Vogt
F. Paul Wilson

Also, although I'm not much of a non-fiction reader, I just finished reading Lee Iacocca's new book called, "Where Have All The Leaders Gone?", and I think this book should be required reading for ALL politicians, and all high school kids.  He's very down to earth, easy to understand, and is written in a conversational form, and the guy truly is BRILLIANT!  Short book, and I can almost guarantee that you'll be telling your friends about it!

2007 / WMA?
« on: January 28, 2007, 05:38:14 PM »
I'm pretty sure that I've seen this mentioned somewhere before, but couldn't find it, so, here's the problem.  I just bought the new John Mellencamp album, and it had a "extra" free 3.5 meg download for a tune not on the album, which I got.  Unfortunately, it's in a wma format, which, of course, iTunes wont play.  Can't find a utility that will convert it to mp3, and was wondering if anyone has a suggestion about this problem, besides buying a PC. . .biggrin.gif  T'anx in advance!

2007 / Problem w/app in classic
« on: January 22, 2007, 02:45:56 PM »
Hey guys, all of a sudden, an app that I've been using, with no problems, is refusing to load, claiming "not enough memory".  Went over to the classic preferences, increased the memory allocation to 1/2 gig, and tried again.  Classic memory/version page tells me that the memory use is there, and shows the app, but, definitely, it's not getting enough memory.  Pulled up the "get info" page for that app, but the memory panel gives them memory allocation, but it will not allow me to change it.  I rebuilt the desktop using Onyx, cleaned the caches and restarted, and get the same damn thing!  Very strange, because I can open up other calendars in the same app, but not 2007, which is, of course, what I need right now. . . Any ideas?

2007 / Looking for a new compact flash card, but
« on: January 17, 2007, 01:53:18 PM »
When I got my Fuji S602 3 years ago, all they did was give you the mgb/gb size, and now I'm seeing numbers like 133 X 4 gigs, or 50 X 4 gigs. . . What's up with that?  As usual thanx.gif in advance!

2006 / For Sci-fi readers. . .
« on: December 16, 2006, 05:03:56 PM »
Just finished a book called, "Altered Carbon", by Richard K. Morgan, that you guys might like. Story line is pretty good, the writing is wonderful (if you don't mind a little rough language), and it will be interesting to see how this guy developes, as it is his first book.  I heard Art Bell (Coast-to-Coast AM) mention it one night, and decided to give it a try.

2006 / I can hardly wait for Tuesday!!!!

Grabbed a 6 month old Power Mac Quad 2.5 from with 2.5 gig memory, 256 mg. video card, 500 gig HD and some other stuff, and it left Georgia, headed for here via Fedex; should be quite a step up from the 733 G4!  Oh yeah, and 2 yrs. of Applecare! Guess I'd better get my helmet and seat belt on, eh?  Ohboyohboyohboyohboy!!!!! (Can ya tell I'm excited?)

As usual, I checked the guys history, which stretched back to '01, and he only had about 13 sales, but reviews were half-and-half from both buyers & sellers, evenly distributed over the years, so I went ahead and took a chance, after exchanging a few emails with him.  Tracked it's first 2 stops on the way here. . .
