Tech / Re: Hey Paddy: 10.14.5 update & LR6?
« on: July 06, 2019, 05:46:35 PM »
Never mind, Paddy; it works fine, but I did have to download the new driver for my old Wacom Intuos 4, and then do a "security thing" in Preferences to get it to work again.

Tech / Hey Paddy: 10.14.5 update & LR6?
« on: July 06, 2019, 02:51:44 PM »
Yesterday, I updated to Mojave 10.14, and fired up LR (owned!)6, and I got a warning that it needed to be "updated", which, of course is not going to happen.  It said that it might not work on further updates.  So, I downloaded the updater for 10.14.5, but have not installed it, and am fishing around for others who use their owned LR, and whether or not it will continue to run if I update.  Any input?  :thanx:

Looks like LR will run on Mojave, but maybe not after that. . .

So far, fingers crossed, my mid-12 is having no problems other than the fact that when I finally installed High Sierra, I was stupid enough to let it change my hard drive to the AFIS, so I can't use DiskWarrior, and I've been waiting, chewing my fingernails and again, fingers crossed, for Alsoft to catch up!

Oh yeah, years ago, when I had my first “real” digital camera, a Sony A100, I replaced the kit lens with a Zeiss 24-70 f/2.8, which led to a SERIOUS case of lens lust, to which I have given in MUCH too often!  And the guys over at Dyxum have been no help, either!  :)

I agree, Paddy, that ON1 is not as good as LR for what I do, and I use that as a plugin with LR; it just seems that with the 2 of them, I can accomplish what I want to do, but this is very irritating.  My MPB is about 5 years old, and I'm praying , like you, that the next incarnation of OS will still run LR, but if it wont, then I'll stick with what I've got until it no longer functions!  I do not want to lay out another 3K for a new one, especially when Mac seems to have reached a point where they don't want us to be able to modify/repair any of the innards!

I'd much rather drop that coin on a new A7Riii, :notworthy:, even if I can't shoot up to the potential of my A99 or A77ii!  Equipment lust is just so. . . enticing!

Hey guys, I've been using LR 6.14 (the last version you could actually buy without being held hostage to their "subscription" model!) for a long time, along with ON1 (since V.8, now ON1RAW), and have had no complaints, because I don't need the newest & greatest.  I know that they disabled the "MAPS" agreement that they had with Google, but why the heck, with the GPS info embedded into my photos, does that no longer get imported?  Is there any workaround that you know of?  ON1 has it, but I've found no way to apply that info from ON1 and copy it into LR photos, other than 1 by 1, which is a miserable way to have to deal with hundreds/thousands of photos!  :wallbash: I've tried to highlight a bunch of photos, and copy the GPS info onto 1, but the rest of the photos don't show it, and this is driving me nuts, now that I'm doing some traveling!  As usual, thanks in advance for any info, and you're welcome to contact me through my email if you wish (we do still have that option here, right?

 I was so tickled to get that message; since I got into photography as a serious hobby about 10 years ago, I have saved a small fortune by buying from B&H.  Washington state + Pierce County taxes add up to just a little over 10%, so it really bummed me out when they changed the online tax law, because that potentially made a huge difference in my spending.  Luckily, by the time that it was passed, I had already bought most everything I needed, but I'm still lusting after a Sony 7RIII. . . :sos:  INTERVENTION NEEDED!  :tears:

Ain’t computers fun?🤣 A lot of you are aware that Jobs, Bezos, Stephen Hawkins and Elon Musk have all cautioned about the dangers of our headlong rush to develop Artificial Intelligence. I just finished reading a book by James Rollins, “Crucible“ (fiction; he's a great writer!) that is both a lot of fun, and FRIGHTENING! This morning, I found this in the New York Times, that gives another view of that same race, that is VERY real, and just as frightening:

Thanks, Kimmer; that's kind of what I had planned to do!  I guess maybe it's time to go back and start changing passwords just to be safe anyway, but. . . jeez!  And, I just checked the first link you sent me, and sure enough. . . Word for word!  The folks at Apple did ask me to forward it to them, which I also did, but man, you just took a heavy weight off my head!  :yahoo:

Tech / HELP! Received scam email. . .

This morning, I was using my iPad to check my email, and found a message that basically said, "We have your password. . ." and it looked familiar, but I went through my keychain and couldn't find the one they mentioned.  I then went through all the saved passwords in notes (keep 'em in iCloud) and couldn't find it there either, so I called Apple, and of course, went through the whole change password routine with them for my Apple account and iCloud.

The email said they had access to my contacts list, which now, of course they don't, and they said that I had accessed a porn site (honest, I haven't!), and they had records of the videos I watched and unless I sent them $2K within 24 hours, they would forward them on to many of my friends.  Not worried about that, but they also said that the email had installed a keystroke logger, and even though that email hasn't touched my computer (never downloaded onto it; I isolated it in a "saved" folder on my internet provider), I was wondering if there is a way, through Terminal, to see if and where anything has been installed lately, and how would I do that (I haven't used Terminal much!).

As usual,  :thanx:

Yep, you’re right, Dream; I went ahead and updated, after a few weeks of the prior system update, I got a problem that I thought I needed to run DW for.  It ran fine, but reported that there was a problem, but because the system had been converted to APFS, it could not be repaired.  I contacted Alsoft, and they said, basically, “We plan to release a version that will deal with the new file system AS SOON AS APPLE IS RELEASES THE CONSTRUCTION OF THE FILE SYSTEM! At that point, I decided to risk just hanging in there, as the only other choice was to reload Sierra from Time Machine.  🤬

I updated both my iPad and my Mini yesterday, and both are running fine!

Oh man, thank you, so much,!  Why the heck couldn’t all those articles I read and puzzled over just have said that?  🤬

I've been stressing over this ever since reading about the new APFS, and I have yet to find a simple answer, so I'm finally breaking down and turning to you guys, again!  Practically speaking, will I notice any difference in the way that Time Machine will work, and should I need to go back and rescue something from Time Machine, am I going to encounter any problems?  Or, is everything going to continue to work just like it always has?  As usual,  thanx.gif in advance!

Tech / iPad question. . .
« on: November 08, 2016, 10:13:41 AM »
Thanks, Jim; I'll check this out!  Oddly enough, this behavior is not consistent; somedays I have no problem with Tunein, or even a tab in Safari being tuned into my favorite channel keepin' on keepin' on while I'm viewing another tab, and then there are days when it just gradually fades out, seconds after I go to another tab, or another app. . . Very mysterious!

Something new is happening in IOS 10.1.1 that hasn't been happening before, and I'm hoping you guys can help; before, when I had a link open in Safari, for a radio station, I could be listening to that while reading something in another "window".  Now that ability seems to have been taken away.  I've tried using TuneIn, but the same thing seems to have happened to that.  I've messed with the background refresh settings and that doesn't seem to have any effect either.  Anyone have a solution to this?
