Disk Utility on a Emac

Hi people! Long time no been here.

My E Mac's Disk Utility stopped working today.

I ran ToolTech. Things are fine there.
What is happening is that Disk Utility runs part way. Then I get the message Disk Utility has lost connection w/ Disk Managment Tool.


This one has me stumped. Hope someone here can give me some pointers.

I ran DiskWarrior. TechTool found nothing. But DiskWarrior found what follows.
( There is not enough freedisk space to perform a failsafe replacement of the direcrory. Do you want to continue and place the new directory direclly over the original directory? )
 DiskWarrior goes on to say.
 ( An interruption during the few sceconds useally required to replace the directory could leave the disk's contents inaccessible. )


What to do now?

Thank you. I ran Delocalizer. Got rid of 712Mb's and I now  have 4.4 Gigs.

Sounds like you solved it and it was different from a problem I was having with one of the school machines.  This one wouldn't show the little desktop burn folder that you can setup under 10.4.6.  I assume that this was just something about the desktop folder because I fixed it with Applejack on full AUTO.  I really recommend that program and the price (free) is right!

Correction: I'm not running OS X 4.3.9.     I'm running 10.3.4. Panther!

Good news! All is OK! In spite of what DW said about losing access to the drive contents.
I rebilt. Plus reinstalled 10.3.9 panther.
Disk Utility is working once again. Thanks all, Buck

I just remembered I had posted in my blog about a problem with 10.3.9 (I only found out just now that you were using 10.3.9 and there were issues with Disk Utiliy), one of the updates (it was never determined if it was the iTunes update, the QuickTime update or a combination of both) but there were problems in using Disk Utility afterwards. If the problem is only a temporary fix, check this out: About the update problem with iTunes/QuickTime, Disk Utility and DiskWarrior. It might help you fix the problem once and for all.

Another thing I would do is get a bigger internal HD pronto because Delocalizer is only a temporary fix. Either a new internal HD or a big external HD where you can move all your stuff to make room so the system can run in a healthy way. OS X needs room to fix itself and do the maintenance. I can't remember the minimum free disk space needed in percentage off of my head right now though.

I had the same problem - Macfixit had some solutions. For me (10.3.9) it was the one update of iTunes 6 that caused the issues. I moved the one file from the System and it worked perfectly.
