Interesting... CarbonCopyCloner is "not recommended." I gave up using it a couple of years ago because of serious problems, but I still read posts where folks give it Two Thumbs Up.

A lot of people are reluctant to pay for utilities like the ones reviewed, so they try to make the free programs work. There have been a number of posts on TS about Retrospect and problems associated with it, and yet some people persist in trying to get it to work properly; I stopped using it years ago even though MacWorld always gave it glowing reviews.  Apparently the reviewers never actually tried to use Retrospect...

Since backing-up is so critical, cutting corners when it comes to this kind of software is indeed Penny Wise, Pound Foolish.

He says he didn't review .Mac's Backup yet since it requires a .mac account.  I'd like to understand what all the files in my backup folder mean.  It has a lot of files named by the date but only one folder of documents.

I'm not a bit surprised that SD! came out on top. It is fantastic software with fantastic support. I've been using it for some time now. It's very fast and very good.

A tough combination.

You rock Dave Narian!

Oops, I haven't backed up for a while. Best go do that now while I'm thinking about it.

I'm back already! (4 minutes flat)

I just cloned the following partitions to their backup partitions on my Seagate 300GB FW drive:

Macintosh HD --> OSX
Apps --> BApps (All, at least most of the non-Apple Apps on my system)
Files --> BFiles All my data files.

There's gotta be a lot of good to say about SuperDuper! !!!!!

The current version of SD! almost justifies upgrading to 10.3.9+. It includes built-in scheduling (no more forgetting or remembering), even for multiple volumes. It will additional mount unmounted volumes, execute the backups, and then unmount the volumes.
