Printing 250,000 B/W pages per week
« on: June 08, 2006, 11:44:45 AM »
Is there an office printer (station) that could handle 16.5 x10.75 stock, printing both sides of 20 pages (40 sides) at a reasonable rate and cost, total printed sides per week is 520,000, folded and stapled.

The new Xerox digital printers are color oriented and I'm sure they could handle the job but, it may be overkill?

This is getting into the range of industrial printing; I worked a couple of weeks for a Japanese junkmail company that ran hispeed color laser printers that could do stuff like this.  They ran rolls of paper and cut it to insert size when the printing was done.  You might go to your largest print shop and see what they run.

Gunug, someone around here used to work in a print shop, I thought I could toss it out there and get some direction.

A friends who owns a local newpaper is finding it hard to find and keep Print companies to do the job. I thought I could find a solution the could pay for itself. I ten-twenty  thousand dollar print station may do what he pays someone else to do. wink.gif

My first thought was to send out for bids. When you start talking about that kind of money, you want to be sure...

1. You know what you need and how to write the bid request to get it.
2. The supplier can deliver what you need and has a record of doing it.

Number one means some work for you, of course.

Why don't you just buy a forest?

Jim I'm just trying to educate myself and create a job for some local senior citizen at the same time. If the price was right I'd rent space to run the operation. In the end it comes down to numbers. wink.gif

Can I run a forest through a Xerox print station? You seem to know some tricks of the trade, could you elaborate please?  Thinking.gif

Why, yes, of course, sillybox!  You just have to turn it into paper first!

Honestly!

Asbestos works better, actually.

All right now, boys and girls, let's settle down.

This here was a serious question! Devilish2.gif  salute.gif

Y'know what I'd do, SB?. Get yourself down to a "good" (and BIG) Kinko's and ask the Manager for some realtime experience stats.

Our local Kinko's is filled with the latest and greatest (only thing missing is a good attitude!). Those machines do everything you can imagine, and at light speed.

Then you could effectively narrow down what you're looking for. Better than an antiseptic Xerox showroom, I would guess.
