Sounds like that Firewire Enclosure is too old.

Whith this problem, in order to reformat and partition ,  i decided to copy the content of the back up disk to the second firewire disk  .where i got some free space left, used DW to rebuild desktop of the 2 partitions...
after 30 minutes of copying got disk error and an alert " directory damaged"....directory was just  replaced and good...wallbash.gif
Now can't see it on the desktop (only apple profiler can ..)
Passed one week on these problems sweatingbullets.gif

What to do?

Thanks

As Kelly suggested eariler in your saga, I think you have to assume that either the drive or the enclosure has failed or is about to fail.

A friend of mine had two identical LaCie firewire drives fail within an hour of each other.

It turned out that the drives were both OK and the two enclosures had failed.

I helped him diagnose this, then install one of the drives in an empty bay in his G4, and the other in a new empty enclosure.

GR. It's possible your machine is causing these problems.

There were many problems like this with the B&W machines.

The Yikes is very similar.

All in all I recommend a newer G4.

I wouldn't put any more money into the Yikes.

You would have a lot better options for a DVD Burner.

There are Chip Upgrades for the G4s if you want.

You can still use OS 9.x

My 2 cents.

Hi,

At least...could reformat and partition the 2 firewire disks (hope they'll keep on working...), install the third into the G4.
Just wanna thank you for all your advices, links and help that really helped  me for  this revival thanx.gif

Unless you also have another external enclosure that you know is good, to put one of the questionable drives into as a test.  That's what my friend and I did, before we put a drive into his G4.

PS - it is very easy to install a drive inside a G4
