Audio input for G4 Quicksilver?

I have Roxio's The Boom Box, purchased an RCA to mini audio cable, hauled out the turntable, found the records and hit the brick wall: no audio input! What is the easiest, most economical way to accomplish my task? It is accomplishable, isn't it?

You can get sound input capability with your QS Power Mac by using the Griffin iMic audio adapter.

Yes, it's definitely accomplishable [but can be labor-intensive].

To amplify coolio.gif what bil said:

the iMic adds audio input and output cababilities via USB [it also provides better sound quality than the built-in audio connections].

it works so well, I have two of them [one for the MDD and another for the PB].

Be aware, when digitizing vinyl, the signal that comes out of a record player is very tiny and usually needs pre-amplification as well as a particular equalization [or EQ, known as the RIAA curve].  

I believe that Griffin's Final Vinyl software provides this EQ on your Mac.  

The other options are to also use a phono preamp [which is built-in to a Receiver] or available as a stand-alone device.

Hey all,

My sister-in-law gave me a phonograph she won as a "prize". However, it has NO external outputs. But it does play 33 1/3, 45 and 78 records, which I have a lot of. Darn! I was hoping it would have output jacks. But alas, no joy.

Does anybody out ther have a phonograph in mothballs that they no longer need that has output jacks and will play the aforementioned speeds. I would love to buy it!

Have I got a deal for YOU..... I've got an old Connoisseur BD2 (belt-drive, vintage circa 1974) in the loft. You can have it FREE and I'll deliver it personally if you pay travel costs for me and the missus biggrin.gif

PS - I guess the snag to this deal is that you probably don't have a 230 volt power supply for it.... oh, and it doesn't play 78s sad.gif

I remember my father's first multiplay record deck (you stacked up a load of discs and they played one after another) also played 16rpm discs, but I never saw any in the shops.

Thanks for your thoughts, but the 230 volts puts me out of the game.

And I'll bet it doesn't have digital outputs either.

kbeartx is firing on all cylinders regarding your best choices... he is indeed "Doctor Audio"... your best choices are those that rest in your USB input for that particular machine.
