A French start-up created to build autonomous, easily programmable, affordable humanoid robots has emerged from stealth mode. Aldebaran Robotics, of Paris, expects to ship its first product -- a humanoid household service robot running Linux -- in early 2007.

I think it's pretty interesting to know that it will run on Linux and another opensource project called URBI.
The French company is Aldebaran Robotics and i just love their logo, more specific their emblem.

What I was reading about this at Slashdot.org is that the French robot has more freedom of motion than the Japanese robot; mostly in it's hands and wrists.  I think having a Linux OS would be useful in applying as many tools as can be had.  There is a long was to go before people get the robots they see in Science Fiction books and movies.

That's what i was thinking also, but than again, the latest version of their robot does have some simularities with the ones used in the latest iRobot movie.

What I was thinking though was how a robot such as this one could help the handicapped.  Now they train helper animals, dogs and monkeys mostly, to do things for people in wheelchairs that they can't reach.  I thought a robot might be a more useful alternative.

But the robot will never provide the love and attention that the animals do!
