Bryce 5 free until September 6
« on: September 02, 2006, 01:20:23 AM »
I've seen this program mentioned more than once on here, so if anyone's curious enough to want to try it check out this link.

Haven't had time to check out the link to see if there are any big catches in this offer  dry.gif

Bryce warns that it doesn't run on 10.4 and above. Some of the people writing the comments said they sometimes can get it to work, other times no. It keeps crashing. Someone with a PC said it's buggy, as well. Anyone running Panther or before might have better luck.

Bryce 5.5 had trouble with 10.4 and that is why when I got my Tiger machine, that I left the other machine with 10.3.9.  I still havent  gotten around to it, but they are side by side on the desk here.

But Daz came up with a fix, I downloaded it, put it on the Tiger machine and Bryce runs fine.

But the free Bryce, v 5.0, that they are giving out now, will not run on Tiger properly.  But if you have a 10.3.9 Mac, go ahead and get it and give it a try, its tons of fun!
I love Bryce, tho Im not very good at it yet.  There are great lessons available.

If you do get it, and it seems to take over your whole screen, just mouse way up to the top or sides and you will get your menu bars back.  Or if you need more, go up and 'Hide Bryce' for a while.  It does take a bit of horsepower when you are rendering a picture at a high resolution.

If you want the links to any of this stuff, let me know.
I cant remember who, but there is someone here at TS, who has a really nice Bryce gallery.

That it doesn't work is something I didn't find out quickly enough!  sad.gif  Immense initial download followed by an arcane procedure to get a 58 character registration number which I couldn't get to cut and paste into the field where it belonged, then a 23Meg secondary download.  It doesn't seem any easier to use the old original Bryce was (they gave me that one also) and while I guess I could install it on a 10.3.9 partition I think maybe I'm not interested enough right now!  Might have to go back to TS Curmudgeon!

Hi Gunug,  Something is wrong, this should not happen.
Try the Daz forum to see if others are having this problem, its something Ive not seen.
Wish I could help, as Bryce is indeed a lot of fun.

I don't know if it's the fact that I tried it on 10.4 or if I don't have enough of a machine in a G4/400/AGP.  I went through the whole procedure on my XP laptop and it works there!  The length of the password was the same but I was able to paste it into Bryce.

Downloaded last night OK and opened no problem. Using 10.3.9 so I figured it would work. But I encountered the same problem not being able to paste the serial number. Took a while to hand enter it but it was accepted and the secondary download went OK.

Played with it for awhile and realized I really need to read some instructions to do more than basic stuff. I have Bryce 4 on CD from a suite I purchased a few years ago which I never installed. Maybe there's a manual on it....

There are quite a few tutorials and help for Bryce, but it was confusing for me at first.
I struggled with it for a while and seemed not to catch on very well, heck, Im older than you all.
So I ended up taking classes and that got me off to a much better start, plus the classes were a lot of fun.
